Padraig Faulkner and Killian Clarke of Cavan celebrate beating Donegal in the Ulster SFC final

Cavan full-back Padraig Faulkner says they proved their doubters wrong and achieved “boyhood dreams” yesterday.

The Breffni ended their 23-year wait for Ulster senior football championship title with a 1-13 to 0-12 victory over holders Donegal at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh.

One of his side’s outstanding contributors during the campaign, Faulkner said afterwards that the inner belief within the group was what carried them through.

"We went in with nothing to lose. Donegal nine finals in 10 years, Cavan two finals in two years,” the Kingscourt clubman told Off The Ball.

“The Cavan people this year, with this team believed we were going to win today. People outside the county, we couldn't care what they think.

“We've proved them wrong today."

He added: "Five years without a league medal or championship. It's just what we dreamed of. Boyhood dreams."
