Thanks Pat. Any idea who was playing on the team? keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 3868 - 16/05/2013 17:28:14 1385293 Link 0 |
Keeper7, I look up articles and I found out Longford won that year in an article. If I can find it again, Ill post the names of the players, maybe what they scored and where they were from. Tippsno1fan (Tipperary) - Posts: 26 - 16/05/2013 18:43:14 1385353 Link 0 |
Thanks!!! You're a "Top man" ;) keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 3868 - 16/05/2013 18:50:44 1385358 Link 0 |
link Thats a report of the match. If I remember correctly it wasn't as one sided as the report suggests, it was close up to half time and the injury to the longford keeper was a huge blow. patmcgee (Longford) - Posts: 520 - 17/05/2013 09:05:02 1385499 Link 0 |
Interesting, alright! Thanks for that, Pat. Pity what happened to the Cuchulainns club. I understand that Slashers (who won the minor championship last year) should be returning to senior competition in the near future. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 3868 - 17/05/2013 11:20:58 1385571 Link 0 |
Pity alright, Cuchulainns used to compete in Roscommon also winning multiple B championships at u-14, u-16 and minor and losing several A championship semi finals to Athleague and Four Roads and when you consider Slashers competed very well with teams like Castletown Geoghegan who won minor championships later on, Longford hurling should have been in rude health however i think only 4-5 of these players are still playing hurling. patmcgee (Longford) - Posts: 520 - 17/05/2013 12:32:34 1385614 Link 0 |
That was actually the article I was trying to find :D Tippsno1fan (Tipperary) - Posts: 26 - 17/05/2013 14:32:00 1385701 Link 0 |

I know only too well what happened to cuchulainns. Around 2004/2005 was Cuchulainns, Clonguish, Slashers, Edgeworthstown, Ballymahon, Killoe and Drumlish competing in the u-14 championship so it wasn't only one club that fell apart. patmcgee (Longford) - Posts: 520 - 17/05/2013 15:56:59 1385781 Link 0 |
The All Ireland C in 1998 was between Armagh and Cavan if I remember correctly with Armagh winning. That was the grade just above me at the time and some of my club-mates were on the Cavan team that lost. If it's not that year, then it was very soon around it but Cavan were definitely in a C All-Ireland final around that time. Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 986 - 17/05/2013 16:01:43 1385782 Link 0 |
"I think the problem is most clubs are run by a couple of individuals who are expected to coach every team from u-8 to senior, its just not sustainable." keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 3868 - 17/05/2013 18:28:51 1385904 Link 0 |
Well, the response Ive gotten has been great and I have found a lot of All-Irelands I didnt know the winner for :D Thanks Lads. Tippsno1fan (Tipperary) - Posts: 26 - 18/05/2013 14:36:40 1386163 Link 0 |
Sligo won the all Ireland 'C' competition in 2012. They played Donegal and Tyrone in the final. (It was played in a very strange round robin format) SligoFan23 (Sligo) - Posts: 7 - 19/05/2013 12:39:51 1386472 Link 0 |
Yeah, Sligo won the Under-16 'c' in 2012 and the Under-14 'c' in 2011, was there many players on the Under-14 team that went onto the Under-16 team? Tippsno1fan (Tipperary) - Posts: 26 - 19/05/2013 21:24:49 1386891 Link 0 |
In 2010 the U14 'C' 2010 beat Sligo in the final. In 2011 Sligo beat Tyrone in the final. In last year's U16 Sligo drew with Donegal but won the competition on score difference. Both Sligo & Donegal have put a lot into underage hurling the last few years & now have about 10 juvenile clubs each. Longford usually finished 3rd (out of 8) yet still has only 2 or 3 clubs (last year Clonguish failed to field at U12, U14 & U16 level). keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 3868 - 20/05/2013 15:40:59 1387461 Link 0 |

I am certain Wicklow contested several All Ireland U16 B Finals in these years. They won an All Ireland C against Sligo in the 2000s. Wicklowman (Wicklow) - Posts: 1057 - 20/05/2013 18:15:17 1387647 Link 0 |
Wicklow defeated Sligo in the Minor C Hurling championship final on a scoreline of Wicklow 5-16 Sligo 2-2. August 2011. Wicklowman (Wicklow) - Posts: 1057 - 20/05/2013 21:52:24 1387928 Link 0 |
Wicklow have never won the Under-16 'B', but with some of the finals I am missing in the 'C', they very well could have. Tippsno1fan (Tipperary) - Posts: 26 - 21/05/2013 18:30:15 1388517 Link 0 |
Our Lory Meagher winning team in 2010 was backboned by players from our 2 minor All-Ireland 'C' winners. The hope is that we'd win another minor title next year or in 2015 to try to bridge the gap to our current senior team keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 3868 - 21/05/2013 18:46:42 1388530 Link 0 |
