It is very easy to point the finger and play the blame game as a Cork supporter and a hurler on the ditch . Intercounty players and management alike have their lives and time absorbed and the commitment they give to represent their county cannot be questioned . Would say that these players will get a runout! Brian Trumbull also! We are a ways behind top teams in the way of coaching, and we need new blood. Declan Dalton, Mark Coleman were standouts against tipp, Robbie Flynn and a few others are good!In saying that, honestly Tipp should have won by more, as they hit a plethora of wides. The Cork county championship was poor standard, and Blackrock were very lucky to beat UCC In the semifinal! Cork haven't won since 2005 which is an eternity for Cork hurling!

Continue playing Mark Coleman as sweeper. Subs; Brian Tu rnbull, Conor O' Callaghan, Luke Meade, Sean O Leary Hayes, Anthony Nash

Pat Horgan and Seamus Harnedy won't be around forever. Shame that Hoggy one of our best ever players may never win an all Ireland! His stick work commitment, and skill is reminiscent of Ring! Great player. Alan Cadogan hopefully will return to the mix. On his day is a good corner forward, and a ball winner. Personally some other Rockies players are impressive. Gary Norberg and Niall Cashman for example....as well as the others mentioned!

As an outsider that team wouldn't be the one I'd pick for Cork. Sean O Donoghue, Cahalane and O Mahoney as half the backs? No way. Thats too much bad decision making for me. Cahalane is a big athletic guy but he's been tried and tried again. His decision making is poor, the amount of hospital passes he gives. The centre back Cashman from Blackrock is a guy id play centre back. That guy is tough and cute on the ball, something I grew up thinking every Cork hurler was supposed to be. O Donoghue can make it but Spillane needs to go other corner and then you need a new fullback. Fitzgibbon,Coleman and Cooper are nailed on for me...but Fitzgibbon and Coleman are lightweights and you couldn't afford another 2 lightweights in the forwards. Deasy deserves a shot...Dalton, Harnedy then Alan Cadogan and Horgan and then one big man.. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1323 - 24/11/2020 09:53:44 2314485 Link 1 |
Rob Downey could move to full back and Niall Cashman be tried at center or half back! Cashman is 25 and hasn't been tried for Cork yet. Certainly a good hurler and starred for Blackrock.

For Cork hurling to get back to where it should be the hurler on the ditch has a few suggestions : 1. For the standard of Cork hurling to improve there needs to be a willingness amongst club players that have ambitions to play for Cork or at Senior level to represent their divisions. With the clubs out there , there is no reason why Muskerry, Avondhu , Seandun, Carrigdhoun , Carbery cannot field teams at minor , u20 and senior level in the County Championship . No matter what sport you play good players have to be surrounded by good players in order to become better . Duhallow are evidence of how rewarding it can be from their underage exploits and Imokilly at senior level with clubs from both divisions reaping the rewards from it . 2. Its plain and simple Cork dont score enough goals. Whatever way you look at it thats the way it has been for years . Corks next management team need to address this and identify the best forwards on the county that are capable and willing to take on defenders and go for the juggler. Kilkennys 2 goals in 2 minutes in the Leinster Final epitomizes their philosophy. Galway, Limerick and Tipp are goal getters thats the difference. 3. Cork have too many "nice" hurlers . You dont need 15 nice hurlers to win you a match . A few physical grafters are needed to win dirty ball and to get Cork over the line . When games are in the melting pot Cork are not winning these battles anymore . There are plenty of hurlers around the county that have the drive and venom to solve this . I wont comment on the players ye mentioned lads but I will say that Cork new to freshen things up . Its fair to say those players have had their time with Cork and its now time for the next crop of players to showcase their talents. 12 new players and a fresh management team need to be in place if Cork are to move forward . Either way, Cork are in for rough sledding for a few years. We did have our glory years! I get as much enjoyment Looking forward to and watching upcoming semifinals. Especially Galway vs Limerick.. slightly side with Galway here. Enjoy the games and congratulations to all the players! Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 535 - 26/11/2020 16:09:15 2315657 Link 0 |
