Oh dear oh dear....The top guns in croke park will be more than disappointed with todays results !! After all if the normal championship went ahead you can bet your life on it Tipp or Cavan would not be in an all ireland semi final. This will lead , rightly so, to a cry out for a knock out championship so that there is more opportunities for the smaller teams to make semi finals. But this wont happen because its all about money. If they look at changing the championship format it will only be more games for, you guessed it, more money !! TwoFeet (Leitrim) - Posts: 28 - 22/11/2020 18:52:32 2313156 Link 4 |

What are you talking about. The GAA would be delighted with those semi final line ups. Cavan v Dublin would be a sell out as 40,000 Cavan fans would decend on Dublin. Mayo v Tipp would likely attract around 60k...think it was around that in 2016 when the sides met. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 10339 - 23/11/2020 07:57:57 2313623 Link 1 |
Explain how the knockout championships affected any results?

Ah lads - can we not just enjoy what happened yesterday for at least one full day! Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1073 - 23/11/2020 09:56:14 2313663 Link 2 |
Leaving the money issue aside for the moment, do you think that's the only benefit from not having a knockout championship? The main reason for me would be to give teams more than just 1 championship game a year. With the amount of training teams do these days amd the commitment players give, do you think it's fair that half of them would get only a single championship match? On the money issue, you speak as if it's going into some owner's pockets. That money is what keeps builds facilities for clubs all over the country. That kinda talk is far to reasonable and rational for this forum these days

Let's not forget it is our own county leading the charge to split the competition into two tiers, which is shameful from our county board in my opinion. Tipperary would not have had the players available they had yesterday in a normal year. It was probably one of the greatest days in gaelic football in this century at least which papered over the cracks of a worrying result on the Saturday for the future viability of Leinster football. The collapse of Cavan football from an Ulster powerhouse to being called underdogs yesterday is one of the great mysteries of the history of the sport. They used to win Ulster championships as an afterthought. A great footballing county and i'm delighted for them, as well as Tipperary. republicofcloone (Leitrim) - Posts: 120 - 23/11/2020 12:13:24 2313850 Link 1 |
Yes, imagine if we reverted back every year to straight knockout. 10 Leinster counties would have nothing to play for as they would be effectively banned from progressing past Leinster, straight knockout has to be an emergency exception rather than the rule, when sport gets back to normal eoghan6688 (Galway) - Posts: 129 - 23/11/2020 19:45:13 2314235 Link 1 |
