Replying To oneoff:  "I never knew Kerry won 81 Munster hurling titles. When did that happen?

Still bring up Kerry having won an All-Ireland by playing three games when Dublin have won one by playing only two games and another three by playing three ,they even won one by playing only one game. So what relevances do it have to anything?"
Who said anything about Kerry having 81 Munster hurling titles? Bit of context bud. How many Sams have Kerry won playing 8 championship games? Just sayin.

"But sure you are in a hurling county. Everyone knows that" Here you are saying it.

See now you're changing your tune. First it was them winning by playing three games and now it's something else. Just saying.....

Mayo don't run Dublin training camps?

Personally I have no issue with the Dubs playing outside Croker, Love The "Nell more than Croker.

Yes, but only in winter and Spring. Collective training for Championship.

Ah right so, some sessions collectively in the summer, not all I believe. Which makes sense really.

Still you get the sense of the point I was making.

I'd be thankful of our players training and staying in Mayo, if we had to play a final in McHale, makes perfect sense.

That was supposed to be province obviously and of course had you read the post to which I was replying you'd know that but you were too eager to defend your county. So my stats stand, 81 senior munster football championships in a hurling province and Kerrymen dare speak of an uncompetitive Leinster. Like I said, just sayin.

Replying To The_Fridge:  "That's the thing I have always be curious about.

Firstly why did Dublin get Government funds to improve GAA in the county. Should it not be up to themselves to sort their own house out. I've heard the argument that soccer and rugby would thieve but I think that's BS. Dublin should not have had that amount of money pumped in.

Also during Dublin's barren years, many times when they were defeated i.e Mayo semi, Tyrone a few times, Armagh 2002 - The Dubs were favourites for most of these games and beat by a point or two by an inspired Mayo or last minute free missed or a great Tyrone team. My point is Dublin weren't Wicklow then, struggling in div 3/4. They had players as good as Mayo/Tyrone. It was poor management, Lyons/Pillar and been unlucky. Not lack of talent. It was between the ears and ill disciple that let the Dubs down.

The money was not a true reflection on where Dublin were. They just needed a decent manager, which the got in Pat Gilroy, and the rest is history."
The gaa wanted to help Dublin headed by a Kerryman Sean Kelly. The government funds were given with the backing of Bertie Aherne who was the main person behind it. I agree with you Fridge on the perception Dublin were in the doldrums. I never bought into that. Throughout my time Dublin were always one of the top contenders. Dublin did nt win Sam from 83 to 95 but were there or thereabouts all the time beaten in a semi in 89 93 and 2 finals in 92 and 94.Also from 95 to 2011 the were always one of the top teams too like you say lost semi in 02 to Armagh by a point. 07 semi to Kerry by a point. Both won the All Ireland after beating Kerry. Dublin were never gone and will ever be gone. Itsike saying Mayo are in the doldrums since 51.Total bull as Mayo have been of of the top teams in the last decade. Dublin might not have won Sam for 16 years but they were always top contenders. Honestly Dublin did nt beat Kerry in championship for 34 years but anytime we met them I was always nervous.

A lot of the problem with these type of debates is many people blame Dublin for various advantages they seem to have as if it's there fault when it is not and Dublin supporters take these issues being brought up too personally.
Personally I think Croke Park is an advantage to Dublin but the biggest reason most Dublin games actually take place in Croke Park is that the GAA feel that should be using Croke Park as often as possible to justify having such a big stadium.
Is Croke Park the only GAA stadium which has a stadium director ?.

I know whst you meant, just you'd be the first to jump on it if it was someone else.

As for your stats theyve been disproved so no they don't really prove Leinster being uncompetitive. In fact the ones who keep going on about Munster being uncompetitive are the likes of you. No one in Munster has ever tried to claim otherwise, unlike you and others when it comes to Leinster. Just saying...

A lot of truth is that, i think in a lot of ways its a hindrance to Dublin commercially but from a playing point of view i think its a benefit as its essentially our home ground, i think its the GAA dog waging Dublin in Croke Park rather then vice versa.

I believe Croke Park is actually a separate company to the GAA, i.e. they have their own financial results and pay the GAA a sum every year, but the stadium i.e. Croke Park Ltd manages its own affairs. Im sure their might be GAA figure involved in the corporate govern ace somewhere though. from the point of view of the stadium team im sure they are not bothered who plays in the stadium once its making dough.

I'm not sure about Croke Park being seperate to the gaa but maybe I don't know. The gaa have a big stake too with jury's in the Croke Park Hotel. For every game in Croke Park there's alot of money spent in hotel too and nearby pubs. The gaa own Gills pub too. They bought it a few years back and they only open it now when Croke Park is open for games or concerts.

I used to know a lad who was involved in the stadium aspect Mick and that's what he used to tell me, i'm open to correction though. I think it has a separate board of directors and the like.

This is kind of what im talking of, but would now to superior knowledge.

I didnt know the GAA owned Gills, im really surprised by that - every day a school day.

A lot is going around the Croker site the immediate area is going to be almost a GAA campus,, the new hand ball alley, and the mixed use of Sackville Place for housing, retail and access to Croker, then the redevelopment of Clonliffe College with a new hotel and new training facilities.

Unless it's changed in the past year they train in Mayo twice a week for all of the summer months. I don't think you had a point but I am not going to start a row lol.

Covid has made things a bit better in terms of numbers staying Mayo local, but that's it Flaker, Mayo had to cut their cloth after 2015 and decide when they wanted to attempt to peak and this, even when the last team was at its best made us slow starters in the championship. Amateurs can only give so much and these lads have lives and jobs to balance with the huge travelling and training commitment. The Dubs players put in a huge effort to be as good as they are but they don't have the extra burden geography imposes. That's not their fault of course, it's just what happens when policy for decades develops one place as an economic powerhouse and much of the rest/west as tourist destinations.
