Not that it would make any difference to the outcome, but can anyone explain the fairness of playing Laois v Dublin in Croke Park today ? Malonemagic (Laois) - Posts: 668 - 15/11/2020 17:02:34 2309346 Link 2 |
Because we play more games in Portlaoise then Laois do. ;)

GAA haven't the brains to see how damaging a spectacle that was to the image of the game. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 926 - 15/11/2020 17:55:43 2309416 Link 5 |
True, the only criteria required for today's fixtures would be that the actual playing surface was up to the requirements and standards and that spectators could be "kept out" of the selected venue. So several venues could have been selected. After all it's not that long ago that the powers that be claimed that they needed a crowd in excess of 30,000 to economically stage a match there.

Talk to your county board they where at the front of the line 15 years ago when they voted to move as many dublin games as possible to coke park. It was about promoting gaa in dublin with the added benefit of making dublin gaa as strong as they are. Money apparently does not get you success . So laois should be embarrassed about thier downwards spiral .

Thought you would be a happy camper tonight with Meath in another provincial final. Why are some royals very tetchy tonight .?? Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3309 - 15/11/2020 19:51:28 2309567 Link 2 |
Why would Laois be embarrassed? We have a population of about 86,000 and are a Division 2 side and a top 10 hurling side. GAA dont want to help counties like Laois. It's strange that in an organisation that prides itself on being amateur , it is actually less equitable than most professional sports.

In fairness could to be down to pitch quality and conditions, all leinster hurling games were in croke park too. wexico15 (Wexford) - Posts: 2602 - 16/11/2020 01:16:30 2309750 Link 1 |
What's wrong with playing Dublin in Croke Park... at any time ? As I see it, perhaps people have... nothing else to give out about ? Dublin are the best team in Leinster and continue to improve and it is up to other counties to match them. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1521 - 16/11/2020 13:27:02 2310038 Link 3 |
How can the venue be irrelevant and then you say you should play in Croke Park as often as you can? County boards in Leinster have no guts at all, we can see that with Westmeath not demanding home advantage in their game against Dublin. Very soon fans won't travel to Leinster football games because the results are meaningless and the winner is a foregone conclusion. republicofcloone (Leitrim) - Posts: 120 - 16/11/2020 13:40:35 2310046 Link 3 |
Point is giving up the home advantage unnecessarily when its not down to spectators. Look at Kildare V Mayo in the qualifiers Newbridge or nowhere and it worked a treat for them. But Dublin...ah sher it cant be the same for Dublin ,,,there Dublin like club51 (Mayo) - Posts: 295 - 16/11/2020 14:25:58 2310079 Link 2 |
100% correct

Again it's the gaa and Leinster councils fault. In 2016 when the gaa said the dubs will have to play away games in rotation after ten yrs of Croker Laois drew home cenue (Portlaoise). However the gaa told Laois they had to play their home game in Kilkenny as Portlaoise had nt enough seats for Dubs season ticket holders. Laois complained saying that had nothing to do with them but gaa stood firm and game played in Kilkenny. Many Laois fans boycotted as a result. The following years Dublin drew Carlow and Wicklow away but gaa said their home grounds not suitable for Dub fans so game has to be played in NOT Kilkenny but Portlaoise. Now if that's not sticking your fingers up to Laois what is? Again this is not a rant against Dublin as even James Mccarthy was quoted recently saying teas unfair but its a rant against the gaa. Westmeath were not allowed play at home either. It is wrong and many Dublin posts on here would even agree to that. Now on Croke Park.the Neller is home ground but the Dublin County board pay rent sometimes to accommodate their fans which is fair enough. When a team has home venue they and they only should be allowed choose a suitable venue so if Dubs choose Croker or the blanch so ve it. However when Laois Westmeath Carlow get home venue it should be there choice. Kildare we're right a few years ago with"Newbridge or nowhere". I live in Dublin. My kids are dubs and my friends are duns and they would all welcome travel as would the Dublin team but the gaa high horses. We'll that's a different matter. Ridiculous post. Telling Laois, Carlow, Offaly, Longford to match Dublin is like telling Ireland to match France on the Olympic medal table. It just wont happen.

Kevin McStay in his IT column today says Laois have played Dublin 35 times in Leinster c'ship and not once has the game been held in Laois. Imagine that. That would not be tolerated by any county in the other three provinces, so it's good enough for the other eleven teams in Leinster that Dublin are so far ahead, their compliance has fed the beast and they are reaping the rewards of that. republicofcloone (Leitrim) - Posts: 120 - 17/11/2020 09:22:49 2310499 Link 0 |
