In fairness Breffni would probably have suited us as well as it's a much better playing surface. You're right in '92, we had a scare that first day out and the Wee Man scored a free from 50metres I remember towards the end, I can't remember if it was to draw the game or to nudge us in front and Cavan came back again. We won handily enough the second day out, I remember we had played Cavan I think the three years previous in Ulster as well, they were sick of the sight of us I'd say. Well worth going down a youtube hole of highlights from those days to see Martin McHugh in his pomp. JoeSoap (Donegal) - Posts: 1125 - 20/11/2020 11:35:56 2311655 Link 1 |
We beat Meath in the championship in 2005

And we beat Donegal the game before that...

I heard that Donegal wanted to play in Breffni. The surface is great and would suit them better so not surprised they'd want to go back there, even it being Cavans home ground. Ulster has a weird issue with neutral venues, Munster and Connacht regularly switch to different venues and rotate between opponents. Breffni the best pitch this time of year, mad they've relaid the Athletic grounds instead of a far easier solution in Breffni...

Just stating something that happened before another event. What's wrong with that? Be mad if it repeated though

The only hope really is Cavan start well cause anything else will be impossible to claw back. They've gotta push up on the kick out and hinder/halt the ball that comes through midfield. Even at that i suspect the Donegal bench might have something to say about that later in the game. ponger (Cavan) - Posts: 449 - 20/11/2020 16:13:02 2311753 Link 1 |
Hey now Lockjaw, don't be victim blaming :). A couple of Donegal posters are giving it the big I am and very blatantly showing us zero respect and we're understandably responding to that.

That was a qualifier played in Clones - I'm referencing all Ireland semi finals.

I can see shades of 2013 already. Donegal are going to be complacent. Cavan are battle hardened and we've played the best football ball of the championship in the second halves of the Monaghan and Down games. They'll put together a solid 70 minutes and pip donegal. Wait till you see. Some of the donegal posters on this are dreaming. thegadfly (Cavan) - Posts: 118 - 20/11/2020 20:40:02 2311836 Link 1 |
And it'll be played in Knock. Miracles can happen :-)

If you're betting man you'll get 80/1 on a Meath, Cavan double.

In 1982 when Ireland played England in Twickenham, as the teams stood in the tunnel, Bill Beaumont the England captain said to his counterpart Ciaran Fitzgerald 'Good luck Fitzy, lets hope the best team wins, eh?' MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 489 - 20/11/2020 22:23:37 2311875 Link 0 |
Nothing is impossible. I think that the best team will win on the day. no excuses from me if we lose. I still fancy our chances, not going to be talking up the opposition and down our lads. leave that for other counties. Admittedly I have not seen much of cavan bar the highlights of their last 2 games. most impressive to come back v Monaghan. Similarly v Down. They look very physically strong and must be as fit as fiddles too. Let's see if they bring their scoring boots with them. If they do, we could be in for trouble.

Why are Donegal going to be complacent? Don't base the players' attitude from one fan on this website. The players will be focused. Getting very tetchy now, enjoy the weekend one way or the other.

Well done to cavan for getting to the final this year again.in all seriousness they are starting to see the successful u21 teams coming to the fore at senior level. I am sure donegal will win but what ulster needs is strong teams to push each other up and if these cavan lads keep that never say die attitude they will be a force. Fingers crossed it won't start tomorrow. ulsterrules (Donegal) - Posts: 191 - 21/11/2020 09:18:25 2311928 Link 0 |
Don't think Donegal will be caught on the hop tomorrow. The vast majority of Cavan fans know whats coming tomorrow bar a total collapse by Donegal. We are leaky at the back with a soft centre and although we have decent forwards, we can be hot and cold. Our problem is that we can't consistently perform for 70+ minutes. Let's just hope the 15 lads that take to the field tomorrow believe and do themselves justice. I think what most Cavan people on here are getting annoyed about is the way some Donegal people think they're some sort of juggernaut like Dublin but I'm afraid this is not the case. Hoping for a good performance tomorrow and that we keep Donegal to 4 or 5 points as it could potentially be much worst Jim_Shorts (Cavan) - Posts: 92 - 21/11/2020 09:22:13 2311931 Link 0 |
