Let's face it folks. Cavan are lucky to be in this at all. If they had played anyone of Donegals standard they wouldn't have had a hope in hell of getting back into those games they went so badly behind in. Well I think for Donegal it's definitely a case of forewarned is forearmed. I don't think there will be any complacency given what we've seen of Cavan in the last few weeks. They have showed a formidable spirit and no little skill in getting to this final and that needs to be respected. But at the same time, Donegal's form has been ominous. I've seen people comparing this Ulster final to 2013, when Monaghan defied all the odds and deservedly and comprehensively beat us. But the situation is completely different. In 2013 there was a lot of unhappiness behind the scenes in Donegal with regard to injuries, preparation and some friction between management and the county board. It all come to a sorry culmination when Mayo walloped us out the gates of Croke Park. This Donegal squad is in fine tune, and bar a few injury concerns the camp is in rude health. A lot of our talented younger players have really added a lot of power, and we have good squad depth now as well. Perhaps more importantly, there is a sense that for all the plaudits they have received of late, feet are firmly on the the ground. With the above said, I can see Donegal winning with about 5 points plus to spare. If they continue to operate in a composed and professional way then the three in a row will be achieved. I hope this isn't deemed to be an arrogant post, just an opinion based on what I've seen so far of both teams. I don't think anyone sees Cavan winning this without a serious improvement from us (which I do expect) and a pretty sharp drop in form from yourselves (which I don't expect). It was fairly one sided last year, with the final scoreline flattering Cavan, and I think Donegal have improved since then. I'm not sure Cavan have. Lads like Moynagh and McVitty have been replaced by young, inexperienced guys and Mackey hasn't been replaced at all. On the flip-side, Mickey Graham has had another (interrupted) season with this team, and he's got something special about him, as shown with Mullinalaghta. So I do think we may have something up our sleeves which will ask a question of Donegal's ability to pivot mid-game. If we avoid a start like we have had v Monaghan and Down, or like Armagh had v Donegal, then who knows. Yeah no doubt about it Mickey Graham has something as a manager. I hope that regardless of what happens Sunday that he stays on and develops Cavan further. It would be great if he could get the likes of McVeety and Moynagh back, as well as any other players that should be in consideration. It would be great for football in general if the likes of Cavan, Derry and Down etc climb the league ranks again and the Ulster championship would improve as a whole. I agree - and McVeety is a massive loss. He is some player. But is due to be back next year afaik... And it would be nice to see Cavan win an Ulster title soon, but it wont be this year I am afraid to say. Problem will be Donegal have such a strong team now and Tyrone will be better next year also. But it was Bonner who poked that fire first, and with people now rounding on Mickey Graham for giving a response he was asked for, you could say it's a distraction Cavan don't need. It is Bonner looking for an advantage (which he's entitled to do) and Graham just trying to respond to that. Killian Clarke and Murphy had a good, clean battle last year. Nothing provoked Murphy into doing what he did. Conor McManus gets plenty of abuse, but he wasn't getting any in our game this year and still saw fit to goad Galligan after scoring his goal. Not sure there is much point though with you as you're a bit like that other Fly gasson. Must be a Cavan thing. The point was that Cavan are relatively poor in comparison to Donegal and would not have reached this stage had the opposition been up to their standard. I assume most neutrals will be shouting for Cavan here, as underdogs. Can't see an upset here though. Donegal are the only realistic contenders to put it up to Dublin, so would need to be winning comfortably. If Cavan don't fall asleep for the first 35 minutes and bring a hunger and intensity to the table, it could make for a good contest. On Murphy, honestly I'd say this regardless of the upcoming Ulster final but he gives as good as he gets so very little sympathy from me no matter who Donegal are playing. I may be a bit biased though cos I've had a simmering dislike of him ever since he screamed during the run up for every Cavan free in a minor semi-final(?) in Enniskillen years ago.
