I think it would do Tyrone good to get an outside perspective, there will be plenty interested in the job. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 1076 - 14/11/2020 23:37:10 2308978 Link 0 |
PC won't so long as son is playing, so that's him out of the running for a few years now. I know who I'd like to see getting it, It's a Tyrone man alright, but don't want to jinx him!

Fergal Logan...Won the U21 All Ireland with Tyrone...Would he be a popular choice within Tyrone? jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 910 - 15/11/2020 09:03:35 2309022 Link 0 |
Seen another Tyrone lad on a different thread seemingly confident the Gavin one is a runner.. seems too far fetched? Donegal_abroad (Donegal) - Posts: 895 - 15/11/2020 10:02:59 2309040 Link 0 |
Gavin stepped down from Dublin because of increased workload. I doubt that has changed. He said recently he couldn't see himself getting back into County management FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2216 - 15/11/2020 11:04:09 2309065 Link 0 |
It's extrembly unlikely Tyrone as a county would select an outside appointment knowing how they do things from underage teams up; they're also very proud of the coaching going in within the county. Malachy O'Rourke is based in the county now and would likely be the type of candidate who'd give them a genuine chance of competing for the All Ireland. However whilst he may end up part of some management team like Rochford in Donegal; it's very unlikely someone other than a Tyrone man will get the number 1/top position. I don't see Gavin travelling to Tyrone anyhow and certainly not for a backroom position; however I also believe Tyrone will look within; due to O'Rourke's base he may get a role but that'll be as far as any outsiders will get to any of the backroom/top position.

O Rourke was recently confirmed as Glenn Watty Graham Manager in Derry. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2216 - 15/11/2020 11:26:03 2309075 Link 0 |
I would be surprised if Tyrone go for an outside candidate considering the managerial talent within the county. If there were going from someone from outside I'd say Malachy O'Rourke would be a great choice, think he already lives in Tyrone. I will eat my hat if Jim Gavin is not named the next Tyrone manager in the coming days. Wally (Tyrone) - Posts: 727 - 15/11/2020 12:13:09 2309092 Link 1 |
What's more about intriguing is where Mickey is going to next - watched him earlier on BBC & gave the impression that he is going to manage somewhere? greysoil (Monaghan) - Posts: 830 - 15/11/2020 13:48:35 2309141 Link 0 |
Jim Gavin?? I don't believe a word of it.......but nothing would surprise me. Could be a chance for him to prove just how good he really is. Let's face it, anyone could have managed Dublin with their resources and advantages they get from Croke Park and officials. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9294 - 15/11/2020 14:05:36 2309150 Link 1 |
Would the talent and resources be in Monghan to attract him there? I get the impression he's content with the decision but I also got the impression he'd like to be successful elsewhere to just confirm (not he needs to) he did well with Tyrone since 08 with the players available to him. There was certainly a lobby within Tyrone that wanted him moved on a few years back; how great if he turns up elsewhere and shows just how a great a manager he is and how much he got out of an average Tyrone set up. It might be too late for Monaghan though as I'm sure if he wants another job he'd choose carefully and a decent squad would have to be available. I think we'll see him take another intercounty job somewhere especially how he spoke today. Tyrone might yet regret the decision they've made.
