Replying To CastleBravo:  "That's pretty nonsensical reasoning though. Does that mean Liverpool aren't English champions because about 5'000 english clubs aren't part of the premier league? Is John Catlin not the Irish Open champion because I didn't play?

All-Ireland doesn't literally mean that everyone in Ireland takes part in the same year. It means a competition to determine the champion of All of Ireland, as opposed to being champions of a a subsection of Ireland, such as a province, or county."
But you are comparing a league with a Championship which in itself is nonsensical - apples and oranges and all that! For a similar comparison you would need to look at the FA Cup which is the 'All England Cup' if you like, which every club right down to the lower/non leagues get to enter and therefore, like the Sam Maguire, at least has a chance to win the trophy.

But the FA Cup is limited to a subset of all the teams in England;

"Participation in the Competition shall be open to the first team only from Clubs competing in The FA Premier League, English Football League and in Steps 1-6 of The FA National League System"

There's over 5000 clubs in England and only 750 or so are allowed enter the FA cup. Teams underneath have the FA Trophy and FA Vase as tiers underneath it, just like the tiers we have in hurling.

It is an all ireland competition though. Liverpool arent english champions because they only played 19 other teams in the league last year then i suppose?

Replying To Rolo2010:  "I think a U20 C competition exists but finding information about this competitions is impossible. Typical of the GAA. Maybe it has been scrapped but Donegal won it in 2016. Fixtures Review proposed abolishing provincial structure for minor and U20 in football. A tiered structure would work at underage level. Donegal's minors play in the Ulster Minor Shield but a bigger competition with other teams at our level would be great."
Thats true, it's very difficult to get info on the b and C underage competitions.
I think the Leinster system is the way to go at minor level, as even though its tiered, all teams are essentially in the same competition. The only thing is, the 3rd tier games are essentially meaningless, as all 3 teams go onto the 1st knockout round regardless after the group games, where they play the bottom 3 from the 2nd tier. But at underage, minor especially, I think thats okay, its more about gaining games/experience at that level. And if you scale this competition up to an All Ireland level, those tiers become larger (so some teams would have to be eliminated at the group stage), but there's different ways you can handle that. The main thing is, in any one year, these teams play games against counties at their own level, then get to test themselves against counties at the next higher level. And if they're good enough they progress.

I wonder what do Leinster (and Antrim/Down) posters make of the Leinster Minor hurling structure from the last 2 years, is it more beneficial to developing counties in the province than the previous system?

Yes - the top 10 tiers of the English league. There are only 11 tiers of English League football with tier 11 being a feeder league for the 10 main leagues. So if you are being pedantic then yes, I should have said the 'All England League Clubs (not to be confused with the English League Cup) Cup' in comparison.

Correct - Liverpool aren't English Champions. Liverpool are English League Champions. In the same way that Kerry are currently All Ireland League Champions.
