I wouldn't be so confident if I was a Mayo man. Kick outs and shot to score conversion rate are still very poor by Mayo and that's a great leveller. Mayo looked stronger in every line of the field today and yet only ended winning by a point. Cork if they overcome Tipperary will be able to compete with Mayo's fitness, pace and power. Cork have shown both this year and last year that they can reach a very high level of performance that can trouble the best teams like against Kerry twice, Dublin and Tyrone. They also have some excellent forwards who can cause damage in Brian Hurley, Luke Connolly and the returning from injury Cathail O'Mahony. They should have great momentum and belief as well. I'd find it very hard to call between the two, I think it will be a 50 50 game.

Congrats to Mayo. They have a great shot at an All-Ireland final now. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 875 - 15/11/2020 18:16:24 2309451 Link 2 |
Listen as Kerry found out you can get caught if not performing but I can't honestly play the yerra yerra card and claim Mayo are not hot favourites to win the semi final. They will be and rightly so. They need to back it up.

He also kept us in the game and kicked 3 super points from play. Without him, we wouldn't even have been in with a chance at the end. We needed a score at that stage and he has kicked frees from those positions before. He definitely makes his mistakes, but he does things that nobody else on the pitch can do. Cillian kicked a 45 into the wind which wasn't on either. It tailed off badly wide. He still obviously fancied it. These lads play with confidence and back themselves. Without that, they're not as effective. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 875 - 15/11/2020 18:36:07 2309481 Link 4 |
Corn definitely should have been booked, Kelly was booked a few minutes later for a foul that was no worse. Should have been a free in for foul by Higgins. Conroy lucky to escape a red but in fairness that was probably more the linesman that missed that as play had moved on. Overall the ref made some poor calls for both sides. But Galway can't blame it on him, they turned over so much ball in the first half, they were lucky to be still in the game at half time. And the supply into their forwards was very poor, very few balls that favored the forward. Mayo deserving winners but have a lot to work on going into the semi and possible final.

Mayo are made for playing as many games as possible in a short space of time. Nothing heavy about the "turf" Mayo played on the last two weekends as both Pearse Stadium and Hyde Park are good quality playing surfaces

Paddy Durcan hit a Galway player a great shoulder in the game and there was a free given against him, commentators said it was because the Galway player didn't have the ball in his hands, never knew you could only shoulder a player when he had the ball in his hands ,anyone know the rule on this. jacktheboy (Donegal) - Posts: 39 - 15/11/2020 18:59:41 2309506 Link 1 |
Taught the free was because he jumped with both feet off the ground when shouldering the Galway player which I dont think is allowed or is always free against when you jump in like that

Player doesn't need to be in possession of the ball at all, the timing of the shoulder was fine. But you do need to have 1 foot on the ground when making a shoulder, Durcan clearly jumped into his man and had both feet off the ground. Referee got that one right.

Correct. He was off the ground when he hit O'Donnell, which is a foul.

20 players got game time for mayo today. 11/20 won played in a Connaught Final for the first time. 3 more on the match day 26 but didn't get a run today. Mfs (Mayo) - Posts: 221 - 15/11/2020 19:31:52 2309545 Link 1 |
Admittedly I'm a biased Ballyhaunis man, at first glance I thought Keith did foul him. But I looked back and think Keith stayed on his feet, the Galway number 5 on the ground under him wasn't going anywhere, then he led with his head and knocked Keith's right leg causing him to land on him. I don't know the rules there or if the ref even saw it, I could replay on telly.

Congrats to Mayo Connaught champs again after 5 years. Game of two halves really. Galway much improved in 2nd half and very unlucky not to get at least a draw. Thought ref made a few poor decisions and a liitle harder on Galway. Shane Walsh s decision making in the end was poor but what a class footballer. A player I'd watch all day. Galway very unlucky but this will bring Mayo on too fair play to them. Mayo got the bit of luck today but maybe they are due some. Congrats again to Mayo. How can this be justified as a championship? Galway had to win one game at there home stadium to be Connaught champions for 2020. Provincials are well outdated. ryan (Donegal) - Posts: 484 - 15/11/2020 22:41:29 2309714 Link 1 |
Congratulations Mayo. Best of luck the rest of the way. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 1082 - 16/11/2020 01:16:41 2309751 Link 0 |
You could really see that Galway were under cooked in the 1st half after not kicking a competitive ball in preparation, yet finding themselves in a final all of a sudden, they just weren't up to pitch for most of the 1st half. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20035 - 16/11/2020 09:24:39 2309789 Link 0 |
Wow, that's one way to look at it

Does he need to let the player stand up? If he does the ref should have blown for a foul straight away.
