Mayo left a lot of scores behind them in the first half. Could live to regret that as galway have the wind behind them second half

Galway were atrocious in that first half but even so they'll have plenty grievances with that ref, dhia sabháil

An awful game of football.

Comiserations to Galway.

I'll never get used to this keep ball tactic in the opposition half when the game is in the balance. We have to improve a lot for the semi final. But it's good to be going there.

Galway were poor. Mayo won ugly (like Meath ) by what I seen (20 mins of second half). Maybe galway got tired I don't know as I didn't see any of the first half. Did not getting a game v Sligo cost them the game ?? Would like to get peoples opinions who saw it all.

Galway let this one slip in my opinion. Some poor wides in the second half, Shane Walsh from the sideline should have done better in the last minute. Mayo will have to improve a lot if they are to win Sam this year. But they are still in the mix.

Great win for Mayo, showed great resilience to win. I think the harder ground in Croke Park will suit them. They're looking very impressive this year.

Galway must be sickened. They didn't play well at all but still could easily have won it. Near the end, Galway were denied a stone wall tap over free when Keith Higgins misjudged a short kick out and then proceeded to climb on top of the Galway player when he was picking it up and the ref gives a free out. That point was the difference in the end.

Shane Walsh, Conroy and Sean Kelly can be happy with their performances but apart from those 3 no one really played well for Galway.

Will Eoghan McLaughlin's manliness be called into question by RTE pundits...ohh..they didn't even refer to the incident...unlike a certain game a number of years ago in Croke park...

Mayo were awful, Galway were worse. We should have been comfortably ahead at half time but poor shot selection and attacking play nearly cost us at the end.

Keith Higgins lucky with the free but Paul Conroy lucky time be on the field so swings and roundabouts. I was roaring at Ruane in the 1st but he really stepped up in the 2nd half. Eoghan Mc excellent again. Much to work on for Mayo but 3 week break welcome now after playing 5 weeks in a row.

I said I'd take a one point win yesterday and dam glad to get it.

Poor ref how that was a free against silke I dont know and when a game is near the death and you can't see something clearly how about ask your linesman.

Hate to see the cynical tackle at the end but what player wouldnt have pulled kelly down. He took a black card for his team and will have no regrets over it it's just a hard one to swallow for us.

Kelly was immense throughout. Galway started very poorly and if we had the sligo game I dont think the silly mistakes wouldve been as bad but still some of them were so poor and an a v b game shouldve knocked that out of them

Mayo made loads of mistakes too and I dont think anyone would fear them after that performance but I think this will have brought them on a lot and I only expect better in the next round

How that wasn't a free in I'll never know. Didn't even attempt to play the ball himself, just lay on top of the man, absolutely unbelievable call and then he gave a soft enough one in for Mayo when two Galway defenders had wrapped up a Mayo attacker.

I thought he was absolutely awful, gave bad decisions against Mayo too but the really key key moments in the end went against Galway. Even that last sideline ball Galway played a lovely ball in and had a chance but the ref pulled them back to take the sideline ball again.

But yes agree, Galway hardly deserved it in spite of all that, very very poor and Mayo will be happy to have a Connacht title and plenty to work on over the next 3 weeks.

I cant blame him for what he did even though its sickening for Galway but its ridiculous that it wasnt talked about it was the difference between us being in an all ireland semi final and being knocked out.

Eoghan McLaughlin took one for team could well have lost that final if he didn't do what he did.

That Connacht final reminded me of the 2011 final, whereby the home side had the winning of it but didn't get the job done. Mayo was written off by plenty after it but went on to beat Cork defending All-Ireland champs in Croke Park.

Why was it a black card and not a red card?
