Galway V Mayo Connacht Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's been a long road for Galway to make it this far. ;)
Seriously, I'd be worried about the lack of a championship game coming into this. Especially as some of our key players are coming back from knocks and need game time.
In saying that, there's no excuse for not being ready. We can clearly see that Mayo will bring a serious level of intensity and work-rate and will put strong tackles in on any ball carrier. This starts from their full-forward line and they've been very good at slowing down the opposition, even if they don't win a turnover.
If we can match this, we have a chance. If not, the game will be over early enough.
It'll be no place for lads not willing to put in the work. I'd hope that this will be clear by now and we make a right contest of it.
Winter football has made this even more important, as long kick-passing isn't as easy in these conditions. The games are more attritional.
Let's leave it all out there lads!

I've never been more certain of a Mayo win. It's their year.

We need everything to fall for us on Sunday
Wind and rain in Pearse Stadium to slow down the Mayo speedsters
Mayo having an off day, Galway having one of their good days
Hope we don't get a heavy beating
IM saying the rosary tonight
All prayers greatly appreciated

Mayo would seem the obvious choice but this year is going to throw up results that are not maybe expected. This one could well be an example of that.

I'm looking for Galway to win a close one. 1 or 2 points max.

The way Mayo destroyed Galway in the league game not that long ago and Galway's injury list and coming in a bit cold also has me favouring Mayo.
Mayo have 2 championship wins under their belt, both were easy enough wins as it turned out but he have the momentum as well as the recent big win over Galway to boost their confidence, don't think being relegated really matters, I'm going for a Mayo win here by 3 or 4 points.

Yep I agree - that loss and coming in under-cooked definitely swings it in favour of the Mayo men imo.

Hope it is a cracker though.

A game I'm really looking forward to and another tough one. A few months ago I'd have fancied Galway but not so sure now. I like Mayo s set up at mó and Galway missing Comer Duggan Cooke and John Daly. All huge losses which makes me sway with Mayo slightly. However any team with Shane Walsh on it has a chance against most teams. I better come off the fence though. Another extra time game. A draw.

Gas that only a short few months ago we were a close 3rd to Kerry (in 2nd) in the pecking order. Now we seem to be pushed closer to the likes of Meath/Kildare and a lot further away from the top tier. I appreciate form is the best indicator and reality is we are somewhere in between notwithstanding the injuries to key players. Mayo will know they are in a real battle on Sunday irrespective of what the tiresome O'Rourke and Brolly thinks.

I'm going for Galway myself, most impressive team in the country pre lockdown, all fit a serious quality out fit. I wouldn't read to much into the last two games of the league, was a bit of rope a dope and squad development in my opinion. With Joyce they will attack this and won't be lacking in motivation of trying to win this.

Great to have these games to look forward too, the weeks are going quicker cause of them.
Form, league game in Tuam and Galways lack of games and Mayo having games will have no real effect for Sunday, these games take a life of there own and thats whats great about it.
Mayo have had 2 Championship games but really they turned out more like challenge matches, Roscommon were very poor and these games werent of great benefit, only that the new younger players get used to playing together and gain confidence.

People saying Galway are under cooked, which they could be going in against anyone else but playing Mayo after getting hammered by them just a few weeks ago, this will cancel out and 'under cooked' and also any advantages people think Mayo have from playing the last 2 weekends. From Galway only playing one game since, then the hammering will still be fresh and there is no better motivation than that.

It was league game that was directly after the Mayo game 2 weeks before championship against the 5 in a row all Ireland champions, Leitrim and an Ross team that failed to perform are hardly comparable .
To say they are undercooked is ridiculous and Padraig Joyce said so in an interview this week
