Cavan V Down Ulster Semi Final

How do we see this one going? Down look to have pace that could trouble Cavans defence but I'd still say Cavan have enough to get through.

Down looked good in second half against a very well organised Fermanagh. Fermanagh would be a step above Antrim. Cavan looked flat v Antrim and were relieved to get over that hurdle so I would think Down are favourites. but you never know. If Cavan tighten up a bit at the back we might do it. Caolain Mooney, O'Hare, O'Hagan and the Johnstones will need to be tightly marked. i feel Cavan will need goals so if a chance arises go for it, none of this so called sensible option of fisting over the bar when you only have the keeper to beat. make the keeper work.

Down to easily win this one. Cavan won their All Ireland against Monaghan....This is where it ends for The Black Death!

If we're the black death after our comeback against Monaghan then surely Derry are ...... coronavirus?

Thinking about this today and I couldn't call it, so in cases like this I would go for the draw and extra time.
you could make a case for either but I think Cavan will take them in the end, Cavan were brilliant against Monaghan and flat against Antrim so I think that's out of their system now and they will be back at full tilt. If Down had all the Kilcoo boys playing for them they'd be as good as anyone in Ulster.
Cavan by 2 points after extra time.

I went for a Down v Armagh Ulster Final way back.
This will be 5 weekends in a row Cavan will be playing while Down have been saving themselves for the Ulster Semi Final.
Once promotion to Div.2 was sorted they probably believed an Ulster Semi Final was within them.....recieved w/o from Longford, started understrength team v Louth, and they were always going to beat Fermanagh.
I guess Cavan have the momentum but I just think the 5 Weekends in a row will catch up with them and Down will be fresher and have more energy

Tough one to call. Down may be fresher, but not much big game time in their legs either. Cavan may be a bit more tired, this will be 5 weeks in a row, with one extra time game, although they got a bad game out of their system last week while still winning relatively comfortably. Do think it has been incredibly harsh on a team from the preliminary game, who'll need to play 6 games in 6 weekends if they reach an ulster final. All other Ulster teams managed to get at least a weeks break. Saying that, it's all knockout, we all knew the way it'll fall, and just need to take each one at a time so no point complaining. Will be very tight, not being favourites will suit Cavan better, they don't play well as one. Can go either way and I expect only a kick of a ball between them at the end. Here's hoping Cavan manage it

very possible this is a a blowout Down win.
There is very little football in some of this Cavan set up, they look vulnerable to a blowout - Down by 8+

If both teams play to the best of their ability for 80 minutes, I would fancy Cavan but very often they go missing for periods in a game. Down wont, Cavan AET

That's the spirit. Just what we need, a real dose of positive energy.

What a powerful first half from Down, as good as I've seen in a long time and in atrocious conditions. That fella Mooney is like a gazelle just gliding past players.

Down a very impressive team so far. Moving very quickly.

But what was the referee playing at with the last play before half time? Dreadful refereeing

Ref riding Cavan to be fair. Should have been a sideline ball for Cavan before the Down goal, not a mark as it was inside the 45. No advantage to Marty Reilly when through in goal either. Down far better team absolutely, but ref no help to Cavan.

Down will take encouragement from this display but in truth Cavan are no where near Donegal standard. Still it's good to see them make final again but it's Donegals to lose now.
