The same HSE that busses patients to North for surgery.

Replying To essmac:  "I'm a businessman with a City lawyer background. I've been working in and for global businesses for 27 years. These days, my rationale for a United Ireland has less to do with ideology or sentiment, and more to do with efficiency.  If you were structuring an island economy like Ireland's, you'd struggle to justify something as inefficient as a border (especially when the rationale for the original border was entirely ideological / sectarian, and paid no heed to structural economic efficiency).  In a common EU, the border had largely ceased to matter.  However, Britain's Brexit frolic is not based on common sense or on hard economics - as Labour peer Lord Adonis noted, the entire fiasco is an "English nationalist spasm".The North would now be better off out of the UK.  This report pre-dates Brexit, and all the jackass stuff that has happened since in Westminster will only have strengthened the force of its pro-unity conclusions: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.ft.com/content/457df810-f043-11e5-9f20-c3a047354386Don't worry too much about Stormont.  Of course it's dysfunctional.  What do you expect?  It has no powers and no remit.  London still controls everything.  County councils have more authority.  It's an old truism that nobody grows up until they're given responsibility.  Stormont is a puppet show, with no responsibility.  So long as Britain remains in charge, the North will remain politically irresponsible.  I'd like a federal United Ireland.  Regional parliaments in Cork, Dublin, Galway and Belfast. Covid has shown us what a nonsense our Dublin-centric and Belfast-centric approach to jobs are.  White collar jobs can be done from anywhere. And we need our Unionists.  They're the salt of the earth. As an Irish republican, I can say that with conviction.  My affection for my Unionist neighbours and colleagues is real.  I often get along better with them than my so-called "own kind".  So many decent Unionists opt out of politics altogether.  So many young Unionists emigrate and never return.  The challenge is to find a way to protect and respect their British identity.  It would mean that Ulster (9 counties) would have a Venn-diagram status, with links to both countries.  Why not?  Show some imagination, FFS. I believe a United, tolerant, federal Ireland would be a great place.  Ireland is a very wealthy country already, despite our Beal bocht sentimentality.  If we we were all pulling together in a way that respects all our identities, sky's the limit, folks.  I don't see much creative thinking out there, sadly.  SF has too much baggage ever ti be credible among Unionists.  The Southern parties are a mix of outdated and small-minded anti-Nordie class snobbery from the D4 set ("D4" is a state of mind, some of them live in Meath and Limerick lol) and timidity and temporising by FF.  It can be done, folks."
I'd welcome you with open arms pal..
If we can have Nigerians. Latvians and Russians etc living in the Republic why not stretch it out a bit.
A United Ireland would be phenomenal.

Bloody Sunday

It is only right that we commemorate Bloody Sunday and the GAA has done some excellent work this week, But why, oh why have the Clare and Waterford players been left standing on the pitch for so long before today's game. This might be Ok in summer time but not in late November.

I was just about to comment and you beat me too it. They had to stand to listen to PROGRAM changes to the starting lineups with not a fan in the crowd and then listen to the list of people killed, finally the anthem. This could all be done via news feed across the screens but a bit pointless in a totally empty stadium.

Yeah the GAA have done some nice commemorative work alright. Wouldn't call it exactly frost bite inducing weather though.

I have to say that I was not too impressed with Michael Collins and his group on Bloody Sunday. Sunday is the Sabbath. And should not have been used for assasinations imho. Ireland was a largely Catholic country, and to use Sunday for war purposes was wrong. The men of 1916 at least waited until the Monday of Easter 1916 to start the Rising. Slán

If you knew anything about the 1916 Easter Rising, you'd know that it was planned for Sunday 23rd. Last minute 'circumstances' delayed the uprising until the following day.

Oh dear. The men of 1916 chose Easter Monday because a large number of the British soldiers based in Dublin were in Fairy-house for the Irish National. Sunday was a day of rest which meant that the targets Michael Collins had identified would have been at home . His plan worked

If you believed the bible you wouldn't be watching the Sunday Game either.

That's some Holy Joe of a post.

I imagine a lot of it was down to the fact the agents movements were easier tracked for a Sunday morning, home with families etc.

To be fair the biggest delay for Waterford and Clare was the announcer insisting on reading out both starting 15 lineups when everybody watching at home saw the lineups a short time earlier on screen.

Replying To galwayford:  "Personally I would prefer to see the Irish language revived in the South, rather than reunification. But that alas is not going to happen. Tá brón orm. So unity is the second option. Ulster unionists could consider resettling in Scotland or England post unification. That is their homeland."
We can all share the Island as one country, after a couple of generations of reunification of Ireland will be beneficial to all.

Sponsor said they were happy and they'll do well out of not having their name on the jersey for the day

Problem is many from the North don't want this, they think it's all about them.

These commemorations should have been for anyone who wants to yet again it was hijacked online by those who have a tendency to rewrite history to suit them.
