Best Last Gasp Scores

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Mark Keane's goal this weekend for Cork was one of the most dramatic finishes to a game I've ever seen. Championship match, win or go home, literally the last kick of the game, and in a game between two great rivals. Ticked all the boxes for me, minus having the reaction of the fans in the stadium.

Was just wondering what everyone's favourite last gasp game winning/equalizing scores have been?

For me, a biased Donegal fan, mine is Kevin Cassidy's winning point against Kildare in injury time of extra-time in the 2011 All-Ireland Final to send us to the infamous 2011 semi-final against Dublin.
Keith Duggan wrote an article about the point here: My favourite sporting moment: Donegal and Kildare's high summer street opera
Here a link to the video of the point: GAANOW Rewind: 2011 Donegal Kevin Cassidy Point

Everyone knows Séamus Darby's goal for Offaly against Kerry in the 1982 Final, but was hoping I'd get to hear about some lesser known or forgotten ones.
As a neutral, I prefer the ones that come from open play (like Joe Canning's point against Tipperary in 2017) than ones from frees (like Dean Rock's against Mayo in 2016), and the higher the stakes of the game, the better.

Its going back a long long time now but shifting a young one from Loughrea I'd been chasing all night at the school hop. She was practically on the bus home.

Barney Rocks late goal in the first 1983 Semifinal v Cork

Drew the game for Dublin in dramatic fashion

It was a beautiful team move finished superbly well into the Hill 16 end to ridiculous celebration

The old Hill knew how to go nuts

Leitrim forward James Glancy scored a last minute injury time volley from about 20 yards out, to draw a game against Donegal in the qualifiers in 2007. They beat us by 2 points after extra time. He caught it on the full volley and it shot in to the net as sweet as strike as you could ever see.

In 2005 Leitrim scored a dramatic point in injury time to go one up against Meath and we were home and hosed, only for Meath to somehow work it out to Ollie Murphy to score a last gasp equalize , we lost in extra time to them.

We were so unlucky back then.

Kevin Cassidy's winning point v Kildare in the 2011 quarter final for me was the best last gasp score to win a game for us that I can remember, must have been a sickener for Kildare though and they have been a very unlucky team over the years.

Jimmy Kelly's last puck of the game point for Kilkenny against Cork in the 1939 (Thunder and Lightning Final) All-Ireland Final. Kilkenny won by 1point (2-7 to 3-3).

Ray Galligan's free from 57 metres in the last minute of extra time too.ocal rivalry, recovered from a 7 point deficit (6 points on the hour mark).

Have to say, knockout championship mixed with winter conditions and teams coming in a bit cold is making for a cracking championship so far.

That was a cracker against us that day! I remember I was half way towards the gate thinking we'd just done enough to get out with the win after a very scrappy performance. Then Glancy popped up with his Tony Yeboah impression. I'd love to see a clip of that goal to see if it is as good as I'm remembering it.

That was Michael Murphy's senior debut for Donegal as well, he scored a goal with his first possession.

Not sure this qualifies as last gasp but throwing it in anyway. Ciaran Mc v Dublin in 2006, a great score to win a great game.

Ryan O Donoghue scored an absolute screamer in the last couple of minutes in the league versus Meath this year. Would love to see that again actually. Typical Mayo- Never Dead

Conor Sweeney also got a class score this weekend.

Domhnall O'Donovans point wont be beaten for me. Mick Jacobs goal against KK also lives long in the memory

I don't remember what time of the match it was but it felt really late anyway, Adrian Sweeney's equaliser against Dublin in the drawn match in 2002. Some atmosphere that day and some game
