I, a Kildare fan, would certainly be delighted to beat the dubs but am quite aware that, being just a fan, I have absolutely no way to influence that happening whatsoever.
When you talk about your county team using the term "we", everyone assumes that you're talking about the team. I forgot your royalty allows for "we" just to mean "you" in your case..

I was quietly confident that Meath would beat Kildare the last 3 meetings. we where absolutely walloped in 2017.
2019 I even more confident :) we where a much better team than 2017 but we only scraped over the line.
So you can see why I would be very nervous of Kildare recently. I think we can win on Sunday but we are going to have play well and cant afford to be sloppy. We have lost the naivety and poor defensive structures of 2017.
Along we massive change in personal. So hopefully we don't have a repeat of that.
Kildare are decent side and can put it up to any side on there day. sure look at 2018 losing to Carlow and went on to beat Mayo. So its going to be a right battle to finish. Talking about scalps or not scalps. For me I think Kildare is a scalp (if we where to win) giving the recent meetings. And would give us a massive boast if we where to play Dublin.

2017 League Meath 0-16 - 3-17 Kildare
2017 Championship Meath 0-13 2-16 Kildare
2019 League Meath 1-9 1-8 Kildare
2020 Championship Meath ? ? Kildare

Meath v Kildare is always an intriguing fixture, we've had some brilliant battles down through the years and although neither county is where they want to be at the minute, it's still a game which means a lot to many fans in Meath and Kildare.

Just as a matter of interest, we've played 13 times since 1997 (you have to go back to 87 for previous meeting), with Kildare winning 6, Meath 5 and 2 draws (both in 97).

Unusally, only one of these games was a Leinster final (in 1998, incredibly we've only ever played 3 Leinster finals against each other), with the majority of games being Leinster semi's.

Another thing to note is that form tends to be out the window in this fixture with teams regularly winning when not expected to do so.

Now of course none of the above will matter on Sunday, whoever performs best will win the match, but it is a reflection of how hard Meath v Kildare is to call.

Being straight knockout will really add an extra spice to the fixture as well. Really looking forward to it but I won't tempt faith by making a prediction.

Has the makings of a great game. Thanks Furlong for your in depth analysis. I would agree with you that Meath are further down the road in their development and this makes them slight favourites for Sunday.
Though with Kildare/Meath games form tends to go out the window and the games take on a dynamic of their own.

Good to hear from you my old friend. Hope you and yours are keeping well during these terrible strange times. I'll let people in on a secret, while I would be very disappointed to lose on Sunday. For this man I would be thrilled. A truer Kildare Supporter you could not hope to meet. All the best and may the best team win.

Provided we beat Laois, the winner here will have a chance to stop the Dubs doing the first provincial 10 in a row.

Im sure both counties would love a cut of that.

Thanks royaldunne for your comments. Likewise best wishes and I hope that you and your family are doing well. All the best and should Meath win I will be first to congratulate you. I know how much your beloved Royals mean to you.

Looking at the championship results so far apart from Cavan v Monaghan it seems that Div. 2 was a poor division this year and not much better than Div. 3. Div 1 teams way ahead of the pack. Expect Meath to be able to play with higher intensity and workrate than Kildare and win by more than people are expecting. Lets hope I'm right!

True but Cavan and Monaghan should be proof Meath need to be very wary. What is Cavan and Monaghan, it is a massive local derby. Where form went out the window. Even though Monaghan are in div 1 and Cavan were relegated to div 3, Cavan always feel they can beat Monaghan. Its a cliche but form does goes out the window in a derby game.

Very same for Meath and kildare. Like Cavan and Monaghan, Meath and kildare is a massive local derby. Kildare always feel they can beat Meath. If kildare win no one in Meath will be surprised.

Look at Cork and kerry, like Cavan and Monaghan and Meath and kildare is a massive local derby, look at the big surprises this winter eg Cavan v Monaghan, Cork v Kerry. Both local derbys. Meath v kildare is a local derby.

Kildare records v Meath even when Meath were winning All Irelands was really good.

Meath v Kildare games in 60s championship
Meath 2 wins kildare 2 win
Kildare wins in 1962 1969 Meath wins in 1964 1966
Meath v kildare games in 70s championship
Meath 2 win kildare 2 wins
Kildare wins in 1971 1978 Meath wins in 1970 1979
Meath v kildare games in 80s championship
Meath 2 wins
Meath wins in 1985 1987
Meath v kildare games in 90s championship
Meath 1 win kildare 1 win
Meath win in 1997 kildare win in 1998
Meath v kildare games in 00s championship
Meath 2 wins kildare 1 win
Meath win 2001 2007 Kildare win in 2003
Meath v kildare games in 2010s Championahip
Kildare 4 wins Meath 2 wins
Kildare wins in 2010, twice in 2011 2017 Meath wins in 2012 2014

Meath won league game in 2015 and 2019 kildare won league game in 2017.
Meath v Kildare is a very close rivalry.

I hope your right of course but I expect kildares best performance of the year. Meath need to be ready for a massive battle. Kildare have a great chance here. The more the weeks passes the more worried I am becoming. Yes if Meath start well and play to the standard they played v Dublin, kerry and Monaghan after first 15 mins all those 3 games. Meath will be a great position. Second half v Mayo and large parts of Galway game Meath played well also. But expect kildare to really be gunning for Meath. This is a local derby. Remeber in 2010 and 2017 no one was predicting those kildare wins. We need to be really focussed and expecting a massive test. We can win but truthfully so can Kildare. Hopefully div 1 football will stand to us but if its downpour dogfight who knows what happens. I think kildare Dan Flynn and Meaths Shane Walsh could have a massive say. Its a pity there is no backdoor as whoever loses could do allot of damage. But if its knockout championship Meath v kildare and if its anything like Meath v kildare knockout games in 97 98 we will be in for some game.

Thanks for your comments lilywhite1. Meath are slight favs but as you said its a local derby where form goes out the window. Look at Cavan v Monaghan and kerry v Cork local derbys where form went out the window. Meath v kildare is a 50 50 game.

Very hard game to call but having watched the two teams promoted from Div 2 this year - Roscommon and Armagh, can't help but think it was a weak division. This makes me think that Meath will beat Kildare as they ran a lot of Div 1 teams close. Kildare have some very talented footballers but think Meath will have the edge.
