''Twas right. Reminds me of dessie solans famous miss

Roscommon vs Mayo to be the first championship game to be decided by a penalty shootout. That's my prediction

Great to get up and running and also give some of the young lads, who performed very well, a run out.

We played well, game over at half time, from then on we controlled the game and hopefully no injuries in those conditions...

Dessie is right not to show his cards and no point forcing the game and risking injury with the pitch so slippy underfoot.

All in all, happy with the win, 22pts scored and 10 different players scoring.

Well done Westmeath - plenty of heart, skill and endeavor shown. Never gave up and kept plugging away.

Excellent attitude and effort from Westmeath, did their own thing and we'rent afraid. Kilkenny is some player. Really looking forward to tomorrows game. I suppose the way to look at is, if this was a normal year, there'd be no competitive games to watch in the dull of this time of year. Glass half full.

Really happy with that stretch in the legs pal. First half was as good and as intense as anything we've done in previous years, all the more impressive when you consider Seanie, Robbie and Lahiff relatively Championship novices. All three made an impression, Seanie our best player in the first half, Robbie looked like he was always there and Lahiff quietly grew in stature in to the game, very good at doing the simple things in transition, is a unit and has some very silky kicking and vision skills, I think he's a late break out as he looked goosed at the end at not as fit as the rest. That's exactly how in nature Fenton broke through. PSmall, has the bit between his teeth and fighting for his place via a touch of the Demos. Very good first half performance.

The game finished in the first half and was all about damage limitation for both teams. Westmeath came out to put some big hits in and did, Not cribbing about that, because it won't do us any harm in fact I'm pleased we are being physically battled this early, we can dish it and take it. You know how it is in Leinster once the game is done, lads want to leave a big hit on you so they can get a pat on the back in the local chipper. But I'm happy the lads got that and will be closer to Championship pitch for it thankfully no injuries picked up, I believe Murch is ok. Westmeath kept it respectable and we slipped into second and started thinking of recovery for next week. Gave the bench a run.

With Leinster and Ulster at the disadvantage of having to win 4 games in five weeks, we have to focus on load, recovery and using the squad.

A couple of new tactics being tried by Dessie, one in particular very impressive, but maybe that's a tail for deeper in the Championship. ;)

The squad looks fresh with a lot of new players in the team and extended panel, hopefully we can be competitive in transition, we've been able to before.

Noticed MDM and Collie weren't in the extended panel this evening.

So........ The Hoganstand and the Meath Chronicle have decided it's easier to call the Wicklow manager Davy Byrne..... like deciding all Welsh people are Jones.... Davy Burke is the man's name.

Why was the Westmeath game not played in county Westmeath?? They had home advantage but last time i checked portlaoise is in Laois. There was no crowd so what was the issue? Plenty of pitches in Westmeath with floodlights!!

Agree, if ever the Leinster council and the gaa in general had an interest in fairness they would have found a way to get this match in Westmeath. They clearly aren't interested.

Very negative approach from westmeath
The game was a knockout nothing to loose
Why not have a go and play some football
To watch Westmeath kicking the ball back into their own half despite loosing by 10 pts was a joke
Why not try and go forward its not rocket science

In fairness to Westmeath the 2nd half was a lot closer than the first half.

Money talks. Westmeath did have home advantage, but the original game was fixed for Tullamore, until Covid 19 intervened. On the game, I only saw a few minutes, switched off in the second half.

Probably the same reason Offaly v Kildare is in O Moore Park.
Think they want Westmeath and Offaly out and that's the only way to get it.

I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with trying to create and manage a 'Covid safe' environment. Some grounds are more suitable than others. while also taking in to account travelling distance for both teams. Plus, setting this up in the least amount of grounds saves time and money. Today's match between Offaly v Kildare is also being played at O'Moore Park.

Meath travelling to aughrim today kinda blows that theory out of the water. Hell of a lot smaller etc than cusack pk in Mullingar.

What has the size of grounds got to do with what I said?

Healthy lead for Mayo heading into half time, looking the part, hell of a lot of wides though.

Let's see what Roscommon can do with the wind at their backs at half time. Big gap to close, might need goals here.

Surprised by the gap at halftime, had Roscommon down as having a big say in the Connacht championship. Still half the game to go.

Mayo could be 15 pts up if they could hit the target. Roscommon will need to produce something they haven't shown yet if they're to have any hope in second half.
If Mayo get the first couple of scores it's all over.
