I think Darren Fay's father Micky Fay, played on the Meath team who beat Offaly in the 1970 Leinster SF Final. The score was Meath 2-22 Offaly 5-12. 1 point win for Meath, in an 80 minute game. Incredible match. Some Royal County supporter will confirm if true. The Fay's had a hotel in Trim. MicktheMiller (Offaly) - Posts: 112 - 06/11/2020 14:14:26 2305583 Link 0 |

A bit of heat comes on him and he tries to backtrack... He was completely out of order, but do you think he cares a jot...??? Not on your nelly..... couldnt give a ..... What's your point? Would you not class writing columns and speaking on tv as work?

Some of these pundits are tiresome same ole same ole and pure biased when their counties are playing. In fairness to McStay he s the least biased. Whelan very biased as is Spillane and yes most have newspaper columns also Ó Sé indo Whelan has evening herald Spillane SW and both Brolly and Ó Rourke sun indo. Yes they all earning top money from Gaa even without their full time jobs.

Sure go and setup your own GAA punditry blog and podcast if you think it's so easy.

The thing is those pundits that sometimes get their fair share of critism,in fairness not one of them appointed or selected themselves as RTE pundits, and if they were offered x,y,or z euros to sign up as a pundit then good luck to them, ok so I begrudge them a bit, some of them have columns in the papers as well, now I'm beginning to really begrudge them, however they are not perfect but who is.? Also, At any time prior to this Covid - 19 Pandemic when was there an issue with any county withdrawing from a senior football provincial championship without valid reason, if at all, or from a NFL competition, or for that matter from any scheduled competition, when.? supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2161 - 06/11/2020 20:46:37 2305689 Link 1 |
Interesting statement from Sligo players saying they wanted the game to go ahead. Who made the call to concede so? Maybe Tomas O Se was right sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 565 - 06/11/2020 22:39:17 2305715 Link 4 |
A couple of years back a last round game between limerick and Wicklow wasn't played, I can't remember was it because of a storm but it was the gaa's decision not to play it, not limerick or Wicklow pulling out as far as I know. Of course Kilkenny pulled out of football years ago. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 07/11/2020 07:48:44 2305738 Link 2 |
Of course they wanted to play. Doesn't every player who trains want to go out and play but at the moment there are 11 confirmed cases in the panell of 32. Throw in another 4 close contacts plus 4 injuries. Then add that up and see what numbers you have. Then add in that this virus has also been transmitted to family members and you get an idea of the seriousness of the situation. O Se was brilliant. If he didn't come out with such an ignorant comment there wouldn't have been a word about Sligo since last Wednesday cos we are a small county with a small pick of players. The players statement was directed towards the useless Co Board who never uttered a single line in support of the players or management. The players wanted a postponement but the Co Board didn't think it worthwhile to request one. They probably would not have got one but the pressure should have been put on to see what would happen. Remember Kildare took a stand Newbridge or Nowhere and forced Croke Park to eat humble pie. Roscommon did similay when they announced a few years ago that the Connacht final would be in the Hyde and lo and behold that's what happened.....

If O'Se was right, would it maybe not be a good idea to explain himself better than throwing a loose statement out there that shines a controversial spotlight on Sligo GAA? If it is 'fair to question Sligo' then tell us why? Because its out there now because of him one way or the other but all he seems to be going on are 'thrown out there' rumours with no facts.

Paul Taylor says sligo couldn't play due to Covid and injuries, players obviously had a different view, were they asked their views? Clearly not obviously Whereismyman (Sligo) - Posts: 4 - 07/11/2020 10:36:00 2305762 Link 1 |
Thanks for the info. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) And yes as far as I can remember the Wicklow v Limerick match wasn't played because of a snow fall, I could be wrong though. Kilkenny withdrew from senior football because of a self-made" hurling Pandemic" in the county, - - they are still coping well with that "Pandemic" by all accounts. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2161 - 07/11/2020 10:56:31 2305768 Link 0 |
Apparently Sligo CB never asked for postponement as there would be the same issue playing rescheduled match, with 14 day isolation etc. That may be the case but they should have formally asked anyway even if they knew they would be refused. At least GAA would have been forced into a decision. Bawner (Sligo) - Posts: 30 - 08/11/2020 09:18:25 2305997 Link 2 |
