He didn't mark anyone in last years semi-final but somehow got the job done. It is obvious Kilkenny do not have the talent of some other teams but, Cody will get the most out of what he has and if the opposing team slips at bit Kilkenny will beat them. Last years semi-final is a prime example of that. Tipp were well aware of Kilkenny and brought everything they had to the final and their talent won out, Limerick didn't in the Semi-Final.

Ultimately the end result of taking someone down by tripping with the hurl is no different to pulling them down, but I think the optics are worse. I suppose if it takes cynicism to another level or not is a matter of opinion, but since you can trip without being close to the man and when it is done, it is so blatant that there is no way it can be mistaken for a genuine attempt to tackle or play the ball, I think its a level above in cynicism I have to comment on the hurl throwing thing, which again, I think looks terrible. Everyone remembers Tennyson's throw since it was such a high profile occasion, during what has become an almost iconic moment in the game, at the height of the period in which people had convinced themselves that Tommy Walsh et. al were the divil incarnate but hurl throwing was going on long before that https://www.sportsfile.com/id/319902/ https://www.sportsfile.com/id/439697/ https://www.sportsfile.com/id/449633/ I can dig out more examples if you like Heftydickonem (Kilkenny) - Posts: 159 - 02/11/2020 16:22:27 2304487 Link 0 |
People need a bit of perspective here. These players have had less time together than they have or ever will have in the future. A game will bring players on. That's why I was hoping that Tipp would come out in this mornings draw but no such luck. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 2911 - 02/11/2020 17:47:21 2304529 Link 1 |
The optics of it may be worse but imo no more cynical than the pull backs and drag downs that prevent a man going through for a score. These are happening every game and it's almost taken for granted at this stage and sure what else was he suppose to do. They are every bit as cynical if better disguised as a tackle.Throwing a stick is the ultimate in desperation though. Kilkenny got stick because they were doing this stuff and winning doing it and the more you win the more stick you're going to get. If Laois won that game they would be in the spotlight but it's no big deal because they lost and Cantwell and Co don't bother too much with your indiscretions if you lose. The Dublin lad was more high profile because he was on the winning side. By the way , I'm not suggesting Kk won solely because they were cynical but they certainly were every bit as cynical as any other team. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 1647 - 02/11/2020 18:57:49 2304569 Link 0 |
Dublin where poor in first half, just as bad as KK in the second. Personally, I enjoyed the range of scores across all hurling games, I don't need to suck sour lemons to cover for counties poor play. KK will win nothing if playing like they did in second half, not a prayer. Galway and Limerick for me. As for hurley tripping and throwing you'd swear we invented it.
