Tomsmith here

Aye it is with great regret that I am not looking forward to All Ireland day like what I used to do..Cavan people have looked forward to going up to Dublin on All Ireland day ( except the 1947 Polo Grounds game ).Up early to Dunlin, get Mass in Berkeley RD Chapel( try and dodge the collection as w have to pay at home next week) get a parking place on the NCR near Croke Park have the tae and sandwiches make ones way to the field and enjoy a life time memory. Its what dreams are made from . Indeed its often said that one some of them big Cavan V Meath clashes that the Navan and indeed Kells shopkeepers would not sell minerals to the Cavan supporters buses on the way home if Cavan won, Those were the days

Cavan very rarely won though, didnt they? :D
You must be a very experienced man, tomsmith, considering this rivalry ended in the early 1950s, and Cavan havent been to an All-Ireland final since. If you were driving up and parking in those days, thatd make you in or around the 85/90 age bracket at a minimum. Not to mention a wealthy buck to be driving a car at all in those days. You must live very close to the Meath border. Although maybe you brought the horse and buggy. Anyway, Pop into Kells! Great selection of minerals here now. We even have a great non-brand discount selection that should catch your eye.

If the pubs were open i think id head up to Croker if the Dub5 were in the semi/final and watch it in one of the pubs around the ground, get the gang together, might be the closest we get to it this year.

Tomsmith back live with you now that you have read the post again......
First let me congratulate you on being able to read my post and dissect it as you see it. But nowhere did I say it was all about me. I stated Cavan people looked forward up to Dublin, getting mass and trying to avoid the basket.. It was all part of the big day....... I then stated ... It is often said that after some Cavan V Meath clashes that the Buses would be refused minerals ..... Thanks for info about the own brand minerals now on sale.. I still go through Kells on my way up to avoid the tolls which are very expensive for us Cavan people so I would often stop at Foodies opposite the Headford ( biggest cones to be had) or Supervales for my small eats .

Great to see that some people can still take a joke. All in good taste Tom. Sure I've plenty of relatives living in Cavan myself, here's to more close Meath-Cavan matches in the future, they are never easily won, or lost in our case!
