Only one game left. Surely they could go ahead with the match and get the competition finished. Very unfair on Dublin and Galway. Marooning (Westmeath) - Posts: 14 - 21/10/2020 15:08:06 2299964 Link 10 |
I agree...it's not outdoor sports that's causing the spread and for the sake of one game they should have been allowed finish it out. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 10339 - 21/10/2020 15:36:52 2299978 Link 9 |
I have to agree with marooning..finish one competition at least..surely after the next 6 weeks the under 20 final won't be rushed off..the other strange situation now is Munster minor and under 20 hurling have started,Leinster under 20 going ahead tonight..when are the Gaa hoping to get these competitions finished?i really feel sorry for all the players involved as it might be their last year at the grade.. If you say that about this competition and its just one game. then you could say it about other competitions. Its not unfair on them. They will share the all ireland title for the year...

Theirs a big anti GAA brigade been encouraged by RTÉ who won't stop until all GAA is banned . OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 293 - 21/10/2020 16:08:33 2299995 Link 2 |
Seriously Killingfields? Sharing an all ireland title......i'd rather be knocked out in the first round. How can you say its not unfair on them?

Yes, it is prudent of Galway u20's to look on the positive. They are shared All Ireland winners this year. Will the same thing happen for the Senior competitions. Let us say that there is a storm on the weekend of the All Ireland final. What should happen. Should it be shared between the teams- I think so. And a new competition in the Summer.

You'd be cautious here in that we dont know the background maybe there are cases in one or both of the camps and risks that aren't in the public domain, you would like to think there is a guiding logic to this. My compassion goes to the players and management and how disruptive it is to both in terms of preparation, planning, resources, and self sacrifice. Highly disagree with this competition being called off with one match left, but I would definitely not subscribe to any shared All-Ireland BS if any competition got called off before the final. eoghan6688 (Galway) - Posts: 129 - 21/10/2020 17:12:48 2300024 Link 1 |
That's a bad call by the GAA I think. They've gotten a lot of flack over the last couple of months and I don't envy the decisions they have had to make. But I think they got this one wrong. Surely if anything was to get a go ahead it should have been the u20 final. Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 979 - 21/10/2020 17:19:34 2300027 Link 2 |
If it is the latter, then it wont sit well with both camps. As for sharing a trophy... doesnt get my vote. Games going ahead tonight with all this uncertainty is a bit absurd also, when you cancel a Final which is just days away, and all underage competitions suspended. On a side note - I honestly think this Covid and the stop start nature of games & training will actually make some just turn their back on the game. I know from speaking to underage coaches for example - a lot of kids just havent gone back to the game at all since March. And I would suspect that it will increase as this Covid shows no sign of being gone in the New Year either. In fact some coaches have actually walked away from it also. It is a nightmare situation to be honest. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3309 - 21/10/2020 17:27:12 2300029 Link 1 |
Yes, RTE who screen hours upon hours of GAA every year won't stop until all GAA is banned. Spare us the conspiracy theory nonsense, good man. Everything seems to be a political issue with some people who love to attach a left or right label to it. As for the decision, it's a tough one but it's not an easy call either way. Rather than a shared All-Ireland, I'd hope they can find a date in the New Year. It's just a single match. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 875 - 21/10/2020 17:39:24 2300032 Link 0 |
A shared all Ireland this year. And a new competition in 2021. Or else defer the u20 2020 final till 2021?

Do you hear that Galway and Dublin lads, its not unfair on you to lose your big moment that you've worked most of your young life for. The snowflake forum poster is telling you all to dry your eyes, you'll be sharing it this year. Dear lord!

If kerry win then Galway vs Dublin is a dead rubber Sunday, maybe they could play the u20 players and that be the final.. tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 424 - 21/10/2020 17:50:54 2300039 Link 1 |
Yeah whats the problem? What isnt fair about it. The game cant be played. We may have to wait until next year to complete an u20 game when a significant number of players will actually be overage for the competition theyre playing in. You dont and cant null and void the competition so sharing it is the best option. KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 1636 - 21/10/2020 17:56:53 2300042 Link 0 |
An absolute disgrace, let's these young lads experience the joy. Let me quote Adam Ant, lilypad (Kildare) - Posts: 1357 - 21/10/2020 18:34:47 2300049 Link 3 |
But make sure you finish those leagues

What do you do as alternative? You wont have games for next few weeks. The next years squads should then be training/prepping for their games/competition. Its perfectly fair. They both get the title. They wont have lost. You cant play the game so what else would you do? KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 1636 - 21/10/2020 18:44:11 2300052 Link 0 |
You would think it would make huge sense for that to be a double header wouldn't you.
