Is it true that Jim McGuinness has joined the Galway set up or was today just a one off? gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 871 - 11/10/2020 21:17:43 2296868 Link 1 |
Noice, it would be great to see Jim McGuinness back in football.

Excellent addition to the Galway backroom team. Padraig Joyce is on the ball up there and they will be a force going forward. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3309 - 11/10/2020 21:30:21 2296875 Link 0 |
100% true. Was speaking to him earlier. He reckons Shane Walsh would make a great sweeper. TheRock2121 (Donegal) - Posts: 561 - 11/10/2020 21:39:40 2296876 Link 3 |
I know that Páraic Joyce JimMcGuinness and Séamus Moynihan supposed to be good friends from their time in college together rtc Tralee. If Joyce brings in McGuinness it would be a great coup and very interesting as Joyce is very attack minded and Jim defensive minded. Two great football brains. So much for following Level 3 guidelines. moc.dna (Galway) - Posts: 1049 - 12/10/2020 00:15:04 2296903 Link 0 |
I for one am fuming and it has nothing to do with negative football. Does Jim live in Galway? No. Is this essential work? No. Then throw the book at McGuinness and and Galway Gaa. This is the second time Joyce and co. have broken covid rules (caught training as a unit in during during lockdown). galwayfan (None) - Posts: 747 - 12/10/2020 07:21:23 2296910 Link 3 |
It was mentioned in the Independent he'll be helping out for rest of the year. He might not be with Galway beyond that, but for remainder of 2020. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2216 - 12/10/2020 09:36:24 2296918 Link 1 |
He was brought in for one session which is not unusual. I think it would have been a bad move bringing him in full time as Galway are going well already. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 10339 - 12/10/2020 10:04:39 2296923 Link 3 |
Elite sport is not subject to Level 3 restrictions, as far as I know. And senior inter-county training and matches are in that category. So McGuinness did nothing wrong by attending the Galway session yesterday.

Not offense meant to Galway but didn't Brolly claim Jim would be managing Barcelona in and around now. Its a bit of a let down. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 565 - 12/10/2020 11:09:08 2296944 Link 3 |
What are you on? Its work for him... its classified as elite sport... Sure Mayo travelled to sligo last week to play Donegal and Clare the next day... Galwaymaster9 (Galway) - Posts: 270 - 12/10/2020 11:20:15 2296950 Link 1 |
McGuinness will destroy a good attacking Galway team , can you imagine Shane Walsh and Commer back in the fullback line , and fifteen defenders in their own half for most of the game , with 4 or 5 quick attacks for the whole game , BORING jacktheboy (Donegal) - Posts: 39 - 12/10/2020 11:21:17 2296951 Link 1 |
Galway probably on a better trajectory at present to be fair!

Why the negativity? If the game had been played as scheduled back in March I would have highly tipped Galway, not now, Mayo have everyone back, apart from Doherty, it's a game Mayo need to win and Tuam is no longer a tough place to go. I think Mayo will be on a high after impressive build up work wise .. Galwaymaster9 (Galway) - Posts: 270 - 12/10/2020 11:45:11 2296960 Link 0 |
Yes I'm sure Jim will be telling PJ to stand aside and discard everything he has being doing up until now. Three weeks is more than enough time for the Galway players to learn a completely new template ahead of the Championship. Christ above. Personally I don't think this is a good move, as McGuinness would be a very negative coach whereas Joyce would be the exact opposite. So for this to work, McGuinness can't have anything to do with tactics, and instead use him for the mental side of things which he would be brilliant at. Anything more will only end up in Galway reverting back to their awful tactics under Kevin Walsh. gilly1910 (Galway) - Posts: 102 - 12/10/2020 11:45:41 2296962 Link 1 |
Inter county GAA training is classed as "elite" sport and can continue. McGuinness as such did nothing wrong in traveling to Galway. Galway played Armagh recently too in a challenge.

The immediate over the top negative reaction to this is sad. Padharic Joyce is his own man and a brilliant footballing mind. He's hardly going to invite Jim in and allow him to tear up his tactical script is he? It's three weeks out from the Championship, how is a complete overhaul in tactics expected to work in that sort of timeframe? Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 7075 - 12/10/2020 12:00:42 2296966 Link 3 |
