What's everyones thoughts for this year. Limerick are where they need to be and I'm fairly confident they are favourites again this year but it's hard to judge form just from club games so who knows. Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1106 - 09/10/2020 13:45:28 2296579 Link 0 |
Limerick the team to beat again this year I reckon. They will be hard to beat.

It's a lottery in my opinion. Tipp Limerick Galway top 3 but would nt write off Kilkenny Cork or Dublin either

Cork for the double football and hurling. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 09/10/2020 14:26:51 2296594 Link 1 |
It's the best and worst thing about it at the moment. Probably 8 out of 10 again this year with a genuine hope of going all the way. Limerick finally have a winning team and everyone else decides to go be competitive at the same time. Typical Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1106 - 09/10/2020 14:31:49 2296595 Link 0 |
I'm laughing at your thoughts breezy but you are right. The hurling championship was never as competitive. For years you had 3 or 4 teams in mer Galway and 2 in Leinster cos when Offaly were up Wexford were down. Now you have still Galway Kilkenny Wexford and Dublin and the 5 in munster. Finally when Limerick back near the top of the ladder they all climbing up.

Tipp or Limerick are the two stand out favourites. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13145 - 09/10/2020 16:20:20 2296608 Link 4 |
15 years since Cork have won Liam. They're a Div 3 Football team, it'll be awhile until their ready to win a Munster, let alone Sam. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13145 - 09/10/2020 16:23:17 2296610 Link 4 |
Mmm maybe mes, but this is the strangest of years, and they're a county that are capable do anything.

Impossible to call given its new territory for everyone. Tipp cship appeared strong this year but that's likely down to the fast sod. I think fast ground may suit Tipp more than most but I couldnt call it now. A lot might depend on what the weather is like and if its bad, who handles it best. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 2911 - 09/10/2020 21:08:46 2296638 Link 0 |
Impossible to predict anything this year, my guess is there will be some opt outs before a ball is kicked and then we don't know how the extended time off will effect teams. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 1957 - 09/10/2020 21:21:58 2296639 Link 7 |
They're really not. They're the same as the rest of us. When was the last time their footballers or hurlers came from nowhere to win the All-Ireland? Decades ago maybe. If they could find a couple of lads to help out Patrick Horgan they'd have a chance to be fair. Best comment I saw about their defeat to Kilkenny last year was "Cork let Patrick Horgan down again". The footballers could develop into a decent team eventually but they're a Division 3 team on merit. Division 3 teams don't beat Kerry in Championship Football. I think Galway have a better chance of the double than Cork at the minute. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 1647 - 09/10/2020 22:08:25 2296645 Link 0 |
The majority seems to have written off Cork, Clare and ourselves but thats okay there hasn't been a ball struck in anger yet. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 979 - 09/10/2020 22:21:02 2296646 Link 0 |
Don't worry Breezy. 8 out of 10 night harbour genuine hopes of winning it but not all of those 8 have demonstrated a genuine capacity to win it. Dublin haven't won it since 1938. Waterford haven't won it since 1959. Wexford haven't won it since 1996. Cork haven't won it since 2005. Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kilkenny and Tipp have all won it since 2013. I'm not sure if Clare are now capable of winning it again. Take your pick from the other 4. That's where your winner will come from. Football at the moment is being dominated by one of the three greatest teams the GAA has ever seen. The other two are Kerry 1975-1986 and Kilkenny 2000-2009. It's hard to see past Dublin but the straight knock out format will give teams a glimmer of hope that Dublin can be taken out.

I know what you're saying mes, but it's 7 months since the intercounty teams have pucked or kicked a ball in anger and even at that teams were only at 50/60% back then so there's bound to be a flattness, under normal circumstances I'd give us the nod against Cork in PUC but this is far from normal, we'll have 2 league games against monaghan and Donegal who may well have their sights set on the ulster championship to set ourselves up for having a lash at Cork, Cork are already as good as promoted so not a lot on the line for them either so we'll be going in blind. In fairness i don't know anything about hurling really but this long lay off and winter ball plus teams maybe losing big players due to Covid could throw up an unusual winner or then again maybe not. I wonder what odds you'd get from the bookies for a Cork double? KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 10/10/2020 08:42:33 2296654 Link 2 |
Given the Covid situation in the North at the moment it is hard to see, imho, how 6 counties teams can take part. I am glad to see the GAA finishing the national leagues. It is a less risky bet in that if cases increase it can be scrapped. Regarding the championship, well Dublin in the football and Tipp in the hurling are favourites. I would like to see Galway or Mayo win the football. And the hurling, well that is more open. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 1927 - 10/10/2020 11:17:20 2296670 Link 0 |
