Tyrone win keeps monaghan up regardless of result in clones as would come down to head to head with mayo. Id say mayo will win and clones could end in a draw.

I'd leave Aidan O'Shea at FF or Full back, he takes too much out of the ball and slows Mayo down out the field, his tendency to dive as well does him no favours, Mayo look far better with him inside, he'd win a few penalties too with his other talents. I'd agree with all of that, but the bigger the talent, the more criticism he'll get for any underperformance. Shane Walsh gets criticism in Galway as he's expected to do a lot more than most. Some of it's completely unjustified, but at times he has been inconsistent. When you know how talented someone is, that can be frustrating. O'Shea has all the tools to be devastating. He would indeed make any team in the country. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 875 - 19/10/2020 15:11:24 2299220 Link 0 |
Just saw highlights of Dubs Meath game. Good to see Meath getting stronger. On the Dubs I think Phillys day is nearly over. Don't think he has the pace anymore and Rory needs lots of football. He has nt been the same since his return. However Mick Fitz David Byrne Johnny Cooper. James MC. Jn Small Cian Ó Sullivan and Murchan still very strong so pick 6 out of that 7.Howard Fenton midfield and some selection of forwards

Yeah there are teams like Kerry, Mayo, Donegal, Tyrone, Galway etc that are being talked up but the fact remains that this is still an awfully good Dublin team and it will take a monumental performance to knock them off their perch. Below is a starting 15 I did quickly off the top of my head. It'll take a hell of a performance to beat them. 1. Cluxton 2. Fitzsimons 3. Cooper 4. Small 5. McCarthy 6. O'Sullivan 7. Murchan 8. Fenton 9. Howard 10. Scully 11. Kilkenny 12. P Small 13. Rock 14. O'Callaghan 15. Mannion Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 7075 - 19/10/2020 15:52:22 2299238 Link 2 |
Good team Lockjaw and as you say other teams coming on too so strong Dublin team needed. Donegal in a good place now too. Mayo looked fab yesterday but Ill reserve judgement till I see them again but they do look like they have found some lovely players. Galway looked terrible bit in fairness had a lot missing. Hope the covid does nt hit the teams going forward.

I think we are desperately trying to uncover talent at the back Mick, i think its Dessies priority no 1 and we have used a plethora of players there in the league as try out both at half back and and full backs. Nothing hugely promising has come up though Cian Murphy from Davies's was keen and showed potential via a few mistakes on Saturday. I think Philly & Cian are in the winters of their careers. Daly for me is a huge loss, he may not have been a regular starter but was a go to to do any job in the back line and not bat an eye lid - a safety player - the eagle eyed amongst noticed he looked to have taken up a backroom role on Saturday. Jamsey might needed in midfield as might Howard or in the half forward line. We hare light there in my opinion and Jack is just a massive loss, force of nature. For me anyway, i think our discipline has disimproved since Jim has left, we so far have been a bit rowdy at the back and or a bit lazy giving away scoring free kicks. The likes of young O Shea will gobble them up. I think we will patch together a defense this championship, but im personally a bit concerned about the players missing and our lightness there. Our discipline and my own opinion is Dessies teams tend to be a bit more open and less pragmatic then Jim's teams in latter years. Just my take. All that said we still have Stevo. ;) TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 3671 - 19/10/2020 16:23:17 2299252 Link 3 |

Think you have hit the nail on the head again... Our full back line wont be able to cope with the likes of kerry this year. James will go to midfield. John Small and Jonny Cooper will be targeted yet again.... weak link in relation to staying on the pitch and lasting the full game. Philly's legs are gone and COS wont last the pace. Mick Fitz, Murch and I reckon Howard & Byrne into the defence. Would love to have Eoghan O'Donnell in the back line but it appears his first love is for the small ball.... In fairness Roscommon will be a fierce battle...unlike yesterday

Yip you still have Stevo is right and a good deputy in Comerford too. I agree Daly a loss as he was very solid. Jack a big loss but still think you strong at back once injuries don't kick in. Midfield you have Fenton. /Howard/Jamsie and maybe even Ó Coiffaigh Byrne or Darren Gavin. Bolger a good one too. You still very strong but I can understand your apprehension.

A year to far in my opinion, dont see us winning the championship myself, time waits for no man. Dermo, Flynner, Daly, Bernard retired, Jack off saving the world, Jim gone. A lot of the squad maybe in there final year. New manager - new ideas - under par in the league. Id be amazed if we hang on to Sam, hopefully im wrong. Just cumulatively to much in my opinion. But who knows, we've never seen a group of players like this in the game before. At the same time we cant be greedy either and being sportingafter being spoilt for so long is important. Fresh snow this year in my opinion and i think we will have new winners. The Jim Gavin era is at an end and Dublin are in transition and rebuilding. If we win an All Ireland in the next three years that has to be our aim in a rebuild, thankfully we looked to have a good few prospects in the U20s. As for this year id go something like. ---------Stevo Fitzer---Johnny---Davey Small---Cian----Murch ----Fenton--Jamsey Howard-Ciaran-Scully Mannion- Con- Rock. We could move Jamsey, Small, Cian, Howard around - maybe bring Bugler into half forwards - the lad is a serious footballer full pelt. The depth on the bench looks as light as ive seen it in many a year. Im not considering Aoran Byrne either until he gets a hair cut - seriously Aaron. :D TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 3671 - 19/10/2020 17:53:06 2299306 Link 2 |
P.S. Eoghan is a terrific footballer but he tends to play in the forwards for WHCC. I dont know why we dont give Sean McMahon a run, JIm game his a whirl in the OBC - hugely impressive and Dessie had him at underage. He was on the bench for the Monaghan or Donegal game in Jan/Feb this year - didnt see him at the weekend. Had a really good championship with Raheny as well, lad is a footballer for my money.

Roscommon can afford to rest their big players v Cavan and then have the luxury of 2 weeks break before CFC Semi Final Mayo will need their big players in order to beat Tyrone, then play Leitrim a week later. By the time they face Roscommon it will be 4 consecutive weekends in a row. Can definitely see Mayo getting "bogged down" and ambushed v Roscommon. katser (Galway) - Posts: 1058 - 19/10/2020 18:25:11 2299319 Link 0 |

I dont think that FB line wont be strong or big enough v kerry, especially with the Mark rule now in. Bugler in and Howard moved to centre back. Hopefully Dessie has a trick up his sleeve... ;o) Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3309 - 19/10/2020 19:04:01 2299341 Link 2 |
Yeah Mayo will have to play a full strength team against Leitrim and play it like an All Ireland Final to have any chance of getting through enough. A lot of people really do only see what they want to see don't they?
