Tipperary Hurling Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Can't let the day pass without a mention of this epic game today. This match had everything. Some unbelieveable scores from both teams, and several stand-out performances. Loughmore looked to have won it with john McGrath's pointed 65 with time up but within 15 seconds Kildangan did what they had failed to do in the previous 80+ minutes and got through for a match-winning goal. It's always nice to see a team win their first county title but it was difficult not to feel for Loughmore - an amazing club that has to face into the senior football final next Sunday with almost all the same players involved. Well done to both teams for a great 80 mintes entertainment. A pity there had to be a loser but maybe it was preferable to have a winner without the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Absolutely super game. Excellent entertainment and great to be on live tv.
Special shout out to the blonde girl supporting Kildangan in the stands that the cameraman switched to after virtually every Kildangen score. One happy lady this evening for sure. Long live the great game of hurling.

Brilliant game. It would have been a travesty if this game went to penalties.

What a game!! End to end for the 80 minutes, had some fantastic scores in it. The goal at the end was pure quality. And not a dirty stroke in it is a credit to both sides .

Best tipp hurling final I've ever seen anyway. Well done to Kildangan. 0-10 from the Flynn twins. Paul scoring 0-7 from play is some scoring.

Did anybody see who won the man of the match award?

Well done to Kiladangan yesterday great to see titles going around in every county. I think the standard of the club game in all counties was brilliant and hurling in particular really benefitted from games being played on hard ground, the entertainment level and skill level really show cased club GAA to a national audience on tv.

What a game, heartbreak, tears of joy and sadness, epic, what sport is all about. Fantastic end to match.

Didn't see it but I'd guess it went to Paul Flynn. Seven points from play, including one very special and vital one, would be difficult to ignore. Had Loughmore won I wouldn't look further than John Meagher, outstanding yet again at centre back, raising once more the question as to how he has never won favour with the Tipp hurling selectors. I know he has had his share of injuries, but the hurlers' loss is surely the footballers' gain.

Prob one of the best games of hurling ever seen on tv
The MC Graths scoring some great points
Meagher at the back for Loughmore gave a great defensive display
The Flynn brothers matching the Mc graths scoring points
And after all that we still had the finish of all finishes to a great game
Lads on their knees at the end
Loughmore lads in despair others
Kiladangan in pure joy
Thank god for tg4 bringing to our homes

John Meagher has actually been on the Tipp hurling panel for 3-4 years under Eamon O'Shea and Mick Ryan but whenever he got a game he them got injured, slipped down the pecking order and then chose the football.
Has actually been more or less injury free since sticking with the big-ball.

BTW I have to say although I was dissappointed for the McGraths, fair play Kiladangan and in particular McLoughney at the end, they could have tapped it over the bar for a draw, would have had a big advantage in penalties (their goalie is an AI u/21 winning keeper and will probably be coming on to Tipp panel, whereas Loughmore goalie is 45 and an outfield player, won an AI with Tipp in '01) but they went for the win, nerves of steel and free pints for life!

Kiladangan are a great club.
Were actually senior football this year as well as having their 2nd team also playing senior hurling.
Most of their senior squad are coaching underage teams in the club
Big change from 20 years ago when they were well down the grades.

I don't think he ever got an extended run, possibly because of unjuries, and there were some defenders on Tipp's 2019 panel who've got numerous opportunities without putting down a marker. I think Tipp's defensive cover is suspect and even at this stage I think Meagher would be close enough to the actual team if he wasn't committed to the football.

Barry Hogan is on the Tipp panel a couple of years now.

A really good club hurler but probably hasnt the same natural hurling skillls/ability as a lot of the Tipp half backs and isnt a natural full or corner back. Having said that I did think he would make it and wouldnt be surprised to see him get another call up in the next 6 months.

The battle between Alan Flynn and Noel Mcgrath was probably one of the best and most intriguing battles I've ever seen in a club game. Flynn scoring 3 from play and wona massively crucial free 25 yards out near the end of extra time too just after giving away one at the other end that John Mcgrath probably should have scored.
Flynn didnt play the role you'd expect on McGrath and played his own game and easily had as big an impact as Noel had on his team. He was probably too important to Kildangan to sacrifice his own game to man mark Noel.
Planning on sitting down again tonight and re-watching it.
