Ballymun Vs Kilmacud

Replying To MesAmis:  "And nothing about the Crokes lads?

I've no link to either club btw, I think the 2 Ballymun lads who will be suspended (Whelan and Byrne) were idiotic and deserve to be banned. Young won't be banned as he didn't do anything.

The Crokes lads were the instigators. They deserve the same opprobrium that you've poured on the Ballymun players. The Ballymun players will be punished for their idiocy but the Crokes player that started everything walks away.

It's wrong and is a huge problem in the GAA.

At the moment it pays off to start things like we saw yesterday, that's not a good place for the GAA to be imo.

Crokes thuggish behaviour was rewarded and will have no consequences. Ballymun's thuggish behaviour was punished and will have consequences."
I only saw the TG4 coverage of this so maybe there is other footage that shows what started this incident. I don't think the TV footage had the definitive answer to that, but in his interview after the game Dean Rock said (I'm paraphrasing) that Ballymun had just scored a goal and were trying to stop a quick kick out and maybe got a bit aggressive.

Ballymun had plenty of reason to be the aggressors. Kilmacud needed to get back on the attack as quickly as possible as they had to chase the game. Ballymun had to be trying to stop that and even a free conceded up around the Crokes 20m line wasn't going to bother them.

There have been plenty of punches thrown on a pitch so I wouldn't be too hard on Davy Byrne. Getting involved like that given the position they were in was just incredibly stupid. Whelan's gouging, considering he has also bitten an opponent in the past, is way more serious. Not only do I hope he misses the final, but I would hope never to see the chap on a football pitch again. Didn't see any reason for Young's card.

Replying To Ulsterman:  "In 2010 Ulster played Stade Francais in the Heineken Cup. TWO French players gouged the eyes of Stephen Ferris. David Attoub got a 70 week ban (16 month) while his Stade team mate Julien Dupuy got 24 weeks (6 months). In 1999 a Colomiers prop Richard Nones got a 2 year ban for gouging. Rugby deals with eye gouging the way it should be. Let's be honest here, Dublin club and county has a problem with eye gouging and both Dublin county and it's club teams have got off the hook because, let's be honest again, it's Dublin. The maximum the players booked in the Ballymun/Kilmacud would get in a review would be 2 games. This is scandalous. Does anyone think that if this was Tyrone, Armagh or even Meath they would get away with it? Not a chance."
Jeez Ulsterman that's a pretty harsh assessment of Dublin. 2 incidents is hardly a problem. As I've said to KingdomBoy that's a pretty sweeping statement to make. How many thousands of games have been played between those two incidents.

I take on board the point of how long would they get and the differences but this is what we get when there's 32 committees/ county boards who are all allowed apply the rule book differently and how they see fit. Its also the problem with the GAA being an amateur game and unfortunately I know in some Dublin clubs the money and resources are available to find loopholes and challenge the wording of the legalities. and get players more lenient bans.

I'll be honest my thoughts did go towards that game with Ulster when i saw the incident. And you're right Rugby does deal with things a lot more quickly and strongly. And they're to be commended for that, but also there's one ruling body over the competition you mentioned and a professional support system around it to implement those rules. I also think Attoub had a suspended ban and that's why he got a longer 70 week ban, but I may be wrong.

Replying To brian:  "Pretty poor comeback. Two incidents five years apart, in two very different locations, on two vastly different teams with a single tenuous link of both players happen to be from the same club is a problem. So you are painting the while club with the same brush. That's a very low opinion to have of the great work of many people in the Ballymun area.

Again you tried to play the poor Kerry card and how you were wronged in the past. The Philly McMahon incident and the incident at the weekend had nothing to do with each other. I don't see people claiming there's a problem with fish hooking in Kerry because of what happened with Paul Galvin years ago. It was an isolated incident, it was dealt with at the time and people moved on. Or Tadhg Kennealy and his premeditated marker on Nicolas Murphy. People move on and leave the passed where it is. Yourself and a few others from Kerry just can't let it lie though and unfortunately that reflects badly on many a good Kerry poster on here.

As for your comments on David Clifford, I had a look at the thread and felt people were trying to discuss the incident. The post was started by a Dublin poster to discuss what happened. I don't think there were any generalisations or throw away comments more a discussion of an unfortunate incident and how we'd all prefer that Clifford hadn't reacted so we could all enjoy watching one of the best footballers in the country.

On the Wyatt Earp thing, why thank you. A lovely compliment to receive ;) Now mozzy on and discuss the incident and stop slinging cow dung."
It's 2 incidents 2 many Brian.

Again nothing to comment about the actual incident and more mud slinging.

I think you'll see i rationally spoke to Ulsterman about his points.

As for your angry Brian slur, you'd really not like to see that. It wouldn't be a good day for you.

Mad that it's the year 2020 and grown adults think stuff like this can be attributed to specific counties, never their own of course! Cos that makes sense and bears scrutiny! It's almost like they're actively seeking conformation for their own petty grudges! Imagine!

If Dublin moves to level 3 later this week, will this game be cancelled. Level 3 says no sport?

Maybe Ulsterman you should change your username to "lets be honest" because that seems to be the basis of your argument, so lets be honest most posters from other counties are paranoid about the Dubs, and lets be honest most of these posters are biased against the Dubs, and lets be honest most posters are jealous of the Dubs. So Ulsterman you have no monopoly on honesty, get off your "lets be honest" moral high horse and make your arguments on their merits.

I just popped in to take a quick look and heaven behold - the very same poster is STILL at it, months later... ruining every single topic with his anti Dublin rants.... and still accusing posters of either being a clone of another poster or not being from the county they say they are from, including a poster from his own county being accused of not being from there. Admin - what is going on.... more posters are leaving due to this constant nonsense and constant bitter posts like his....

I'm sorry Brian, you come across as a really stable individual and I don't want to make you angry or anything but 2 incidents of eye gouging is 2 incidents 2 many in my view.

Admin are the equivalent of Umpires as regards getting involved in incidents. Generally, they are along for the ride and nothing changes.

If Dublin move to Level 3, the game will be played behind closed doors.

Listening to an interview the other day with Antrim footballer Kevin O'Boyle. He mentioned going into the match with Kerry in 09 that he had a broken nose from the previous game. Darren O'Sullivan who he was marking, elbowed him in the nose and it opened like a kipper. He was blood subbed. When he returned to the field, Darren whacked him with another elbow to the nose. Two times in the one match that was.

James Loughrey, ex Antrim and current Cork player was quick to highlight he got two concussions that were definitely intentional thumps while playing against Kerry.

I'm assuming that beatiful Kerry side who always played the 'right' way had a thuggish culture too then since 2 incidents are too many?

Well the only mention I made to the eyes was that there wasn't a single eyeball between all 7 officials. And no I didn't see any eye gouging, I some Crokes lad running around pointing to his eye but I didn;t see anyone touch it.

There's a difference between a thump thrown in the heat of battle that'll only leave a bruise and something that could leave you long-term incapacitated. In the latter category:

- eye gouging (all sports)
- spear tackles (rugby)
- sliding "tackles" to knee or ankle (soccer)
- strikes (elbow, fist, boot) to the temples

Any of the above could wreck someone permanently. The rules treat all violent conduct as being equivalent, but stuff like the above should in my view get a minimum 2 years' ban.
