I see they are definitely back on. although this sentence could be misleading: " The Association has ruled that UK county teams will not be involved in this year's All-Ireland championships ".
What they meant was teams based in England. No mention of New York either. I presume they are out too

I'm finding it hard to get excited about a championship where I can't attend the games but this is positive news, let's see what happens.
Seems there will be measures put in place to curtail team spending and keep costs down, limiting number of training sessions and back room teams etc. I think this is going to massively favour the better funded teams that are not wholly dependent on the organisation (including my own) because they will find ways around it. Very likely no supporters at games. It's going to be a strange one overall.

True, it will feel strange but I am still very excited about the return of inter-county. A couple of months ago, the idea of watching a game played in an empty stadium did not sound at all attractive to me but many of the club matches that I have watched since have been thoroughly enjoyable. Roll on October 17th!

s goldrick, New York are out many months ago. UK teams had a slim chance if the two week quarantine was lifted but that's not going to happen now.

Good news. My one concern is that the league games are not been mentioned. Now I'm gonna take off my Meath hat and say this clearly, the league games cannot proceed due to the fact they add added danger to players teams etc. Hq have stated that if a team member tests positive the team is out of championship, can u imagine a Kerry Dublin Mayo Donegal player testing positive due to a league game? Then those teams must withdraw from championship. At least by not completing leagues everyone gets a chance (hopefully) of fielding a team in all ire. Just my opinion. Why take the chance?? A Dublin player gets infected playing against Meath in league then dubs are out of championship how much revenue will gaa lose ??

Great news and I can't wait. Important for the country to get the games played.
I'm enjoying the coverage of the club matches at the moment.
Will miss going to the matches but still better than nothing.

Good point, very good point indeed - on the dangers posed by the league. Although I'm not sure the Galway lads will accept that argument. Nobody else cares too much as long as the champo goes ahead.

Replying To s goldrick: "I personally think they should have completed the leagues and forgot about the championship ." Inclined to agree with this one year without the championship would not have been that big an issue in the overall context of what irish society is potentially facing this winter. The way it is being run off now seems v rushed and will place big pressure on county teams and players and their families. The club football has been a joy to watch the last few weeks without pressure of county.

It's far from ideal having no supporters at games but it is better than nothing. We will get some good games to watch on TV and give us something to look forward to. It was disappointing to not get to the club games in recent weeks but some great games have been streamed.
Even if the virus had been kept at a low level, not sure we could have packed out stadiums. It was going to be too risky. Hopefully we get good championships in both football and hurling. There might be a possibility of a few shocks as well.

And would it would suit Meaths purposes no end if the League was binned!!
What revenue will the GAA lose..if it stays as it is there will be no crowds at any games even Dublin Games!!

Round 6 and 7 of the NFL is penciled in for October 17th/18th and October 24th/25th. No finals, teams that finish top will win the league titles and after a 7 month wait promotion/Relegation will be sorted out.

I think county managers would welcome the opportunity to finish the leagues. OK, in our case we have Tyrone to play in the league and a few weeks later in the Championship so neither manager will want to show his hand. But at least it will provide some sort of game time and match practice for players who haven't worked together for months.
It will be great for us fans being able to watch our counties in action but I do worry about the logistics of it all. Where are the players expected to tog out? What about after the matches? At the moment I think I'm correct in saying that no dressing rooms are open at club level. Just taking our match against Tyrone as an example - will the Tyrone lads be expected to hop in their cars in their wet gear after the match and drive home from Ballybofey? Maybe the Villa Rose hotel could be used?
Of course the main concern will be around the virus. What if a particular county experiences a spike and the government has to enforce localized lockdown? The integrity of the competition will immediately be compromised. We'll need a lot of luck and organization to get it all safely played out to conclusion I think. But here's hoping.

Meath should be allowed to complete their 100% clean sweep of Division 1 this year imo.

Despite being a Meath man I have to ask why are league games specifically such an enormous danger compared to anything else? It's far far more likely that a player will catch Covid at home, work, school, club training, county final celebrations etc. and spread it to his own team mates at training, than it is to infect an opposition player in a match.
Should we ban training just in case? Immediately cancel all remaining club games too?

County teams won't be happy to commit to just one game and the championship is going to be straight knock out. Therefore the leagues will be finished to ensure teams have preparation and more than one game this autumn. Meath will be a Div 2 team again by the end of Oct and after their performances in Div 1 will have a fight to get promoted again in the next couple of years. There is no guarantee this Meath team will be able to beat four or five other Div 2 teams. Was Div 2 in Meath's promotion year a weaker league than usual?
