Clifford's Red Card

Replying To galwayfball:  "I think it's a bit of a joke to be putting clifford in with o connor or Connolly. I know you mention early days but that's ridiculous.

The red card being such a big deal and of course he let his club down might be all he needs to learn not to retaliate"
It was more a general point that hopefully he ends up more in the Cooper/Brogan/McManus camp rather than in the Connolly/O'Connor camp.

It's too early to tell really.

Replying To zinny:  "Duties of an Umpire

The Umpires shall bring to the notice of the referee, during a break in play, any instances of foul play in particular, rough or dangerous play, striking, hitting, or kicking, or unauthorised incursions onto the field of play, which have not been noticed by the Referee.

From what I have seen the umpires are not mic'ed so how are they supposed to do this if the ref is the other end of the field or does not look at them while the game is going on. One simple thing would be do something similar as happens in rugby - the flag is held straight out to signify foul play an not pulled back until the ref speaks to the linesman. If players and the crowd know this and see the flag out I guarantee they will not be long about letting the ref know. So as it stands the duty is almost setup to fail. Also it should be changed that if play had continued and a score resulted to the offending team then the referee should have the power to cancel it and add back the time."
100% zinny, i couldn't agree more.

When was David the instigator 37?

Well I think you are taking "literally" to an extreme, mentioning three players as examples of a particular on-field tendency does not mean the poster believes them to be the same in all or even any exact way, just that all three players have issues, rightly or wrongly with the GAA disciplinary system. Clifford has three red cards in the last 12 months, something that both other named players have failed to achieve, does that make Clifford a more indisciplined player than the other two, I don't think so, have all three had more issues with referees than average, yes, so they surely can be part of the same conversation.

Hopefully Squire David learns, beats his reputation and becomes a cleaner player.

No 1 seems to be able to answer that, I asked "Ciarraí mick" from dublin a semilar question and nothing, I think there is a little bit of a smear campaign underway against David, but we'll watch this space.

Yea that elbow and I've seen him do little flicks to get a head start etc. I know because he was very young playing senior with Fossa he had to harden up but he s a big man now and should concentrate on playing ball as he has all the skills

Replying To Oldertourman:  "You don't have to back to '76- and I was there the same day and saw what you are talking about. As late as ten years ago in Killarney, Stephen Kelly was fouled all day and nothing was done about it. Everybody in the stadium seemed to see what was going on except the match officials. Central Council suspended the culprit afterwards but was no good to Kelly."
I was at that match and I can tell you there was a lot of verbal coming from Kelly. However I agree that his marker no. 5 should ve got the line and could ve been put off at least 3 times. He was suspended afterwards

I call it as I see it, Mícheál burns got sent off the week before and there wasn't a thread started by any dub on here.

On the other hand it's good that King David has the dubs and their menions on here worried, yer old nerves must be starting to jingle jangle like the old triangle.

Don't be so innocent, Micheàl Burns is a prospect but he's not David Clifford, and is not going to attract the attention Clifford does, nor and I stand to be corrected on this has Burns seen red three times in 12mths.

There are many ways to manage your profile though, take King Con, he just slips in under the radar, yet he is in combination, the youngest, most deadly and successful forward in the game. In one year I think he won, three All Ireland medals, the same in Leinsters, Sigerson and YPOY. But like a ninja, he hits, causes destruction and sinks back into anonymity. I think he's a great example to any young player and to be fair the Dublin management team did a great job managing the hype.

I hear he's not bad at hurling either.

Connie was very lucky to be able to slip into an allireland winning football ream with zero pressure on him and that's a fact.

King David didn't even get a chance to play U21 just dropped straight in to a drowning senior team deep in transision and expected to perform miracles.

Oh so it's only David that gets judged so is it?

How many times has John small been sent off in the last 12 months? Will we start a thread about him?
