Darragh Moloney is an absolutely fantastic commentator - should have been left in the commentary box and not moved to the studio.

Most of the commentators are brilliant, it's the co-commentators who tend to be a real mixed bag.

The question lacks ethics imo

There's a number of fantastic commentators across the platforms, channels, languages. Some local radio commentators are a testament to the game. Charlie Collins, and the late great Séamus Mac Géidigh of RnaG the pick of the bunch from this direction.

At a national level I thought Darragh Maloney was brilliant. Really and truly, the commentators for football and hurling nowadays stand out more when they're *not* up to the job such is the overall quality.

I like Dave MacIntyre on sky sports, however Mike Finnerty on Sky is a different story he is too much into his cliches, on RTE I like Darragh Maloney, I like Marty Morrissey only in hurling, not a fan when it's football

Darragh Maloney is good

Brian "high high high" Carty i can't stand

On Galway Bay FM Ollie Turner either thinks Galway are the best team in the world or the worst. Rarely do I ever have a clue where the ball is. They could be 10 points up and if the opposition score we are in danger of a collapse!

Michael O'M was class because (apart from his brilliant wit) you always new where the ball was on the pitch

a lot of them forget to read out the score regularly. Not a problem in hurling so much because of the scoring rate but some football games are not so high scoring.

Daragh Moloney is excellent, however in the crazy Politically World that we now live in, it won't be long before we have women commentating on our games, and the studio is 50/50 men/women. Sorry but the Sunday Game for both the live show and the highlights program on a Sunday night are just not the same since they introduced women onto them.

Daragh Maloney is excellent, I also like Kevin McStay as co-commentator.

Marty Morrissey and Dessie Dolan are rubbish..

Why was there a new ball on the pitch?

Morrissey is the worst - his cheeky-culchie stuff tops it off
Canning- the Dame Sally Markham of commentary
Fr Brian Carthy will not be missed

Mike Finnerty Sky very measured

On the local scene, Colm Corrigan LMFM does a fantastic job on GAA and sport in general
The new lad on Northern Sound is very good too, a welcome change from the castrato tones we are used to from that outfit.

Am I the only one doesn't really pay attention to how good or bad the TV commentators are as long as they get the names right.

I often here people talk about how great this fella is or annoying that fella is but I find with 99% of them I have no opinion either way and don't even notice which one is working that day.

Radio is different obviously because you need the match explained to you but even then I'm usually neutral on most commentators

Brian Carty is the worst hands down.
The Galway BayFM commentators think that there's such a conspiracy against Galway teams by referees and whoever that Oliver Stone could make a movie about it.

Dessie Dolan and Martin Carney have to be the worst in football.
Darragh Moloney and Kevin Mc Stay best for football.
Michael Duignan probably the best and Marty Morrissey is ok for the hurling too.

Agree, Carney is particularly annoying- even when he's saying something positive sounds negative

Agree with everything you say MOM was the greatest ever. I think Darragh moloney is great too.

Ollie turner is either making players out to be the second coming of christ or hes running them down theres no inbetween. His dramatics are ridiculous

I agree with all that. Duignan is great! He really knows his stuff and is very insightful. When he speaks, he usually has something worthwhile to say, and he does not blather on just for the sake of saying something.

Each to their own, it's all about opinions.

Not a fan of lifeless commentators and Co-commentators boring you with stats, you want to be made like you're there watching it as they describe the action.

Marty is great, gets animated during commentary, not afraid to act the fool. In an era, that seems to me, where too many in the media want to seem cool and interesting, Marty doesn't give a shite.

I like Dave McIntyre too, someone mentioned him earlier. Be it on TV or radio and other sports he's well researched and gets animated during commentary.

I know very little about hurling but love it. But for me a Sunday afternoon listening to Pauric Lodge and John Mullane doing live radio commentary of any game is magic. One giving great commentary, the other regularly losing the run of himself.
