I don't think it's a case of being negative but I am curious. Now I understand that it's all hands on deck for this vaccine but again, just from reading various different sources, vaccines appear to take at least 5 years from start to finish, but often longer than that. Now look I'm in no way qualified to talk about medicine and I understand you can rush regulatory matters (which isn't necessarily always a good thing by the way) but I wouldn't have thought that you can't rush the comprehensive collection of scientific data. The effects of a vaccine surely need to be tried and tested over a long period of time to prove that it's both safe and effective. I don't think a year or 2 is really enough time, especially when it's drastically quicker than the average timeframe! Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8583 - 09/08/2020 16:37:18 2287000 Link 6 |
Nail on head with more than likely no crowds. It would be the cost to run it with no income doubt sky setanta will be overly pushed with soccer season in full swing October to December. They may end up showing ur County play on a YouTube/Facebook channel with so many games on at same time for a fiver hardly a money maker. I should say I wouldn't have thought that you can rush the comprehensive collection of scientific data.

Your not long retired so old stock, it's understandable that you'd want to be out playing a bit of golf and meeting your friends down the club watching a a match, it's the little things that keep us ticking over, what good is life if you can't live it and enjoy it.

if the country is still in some sort of lockdown and pubs are closed and supporters not allowed go to the games...is there really any point in playing it as it will have lost its social meaning as everyone will just be sitting at home on their own watching it.

Yes they're would be a point, the players are the most important stakeholder, they competitors 1st and foremost and as many players have said a behind closed doors championship is better than no championship.

Ah sure the old structure is bound to feel weird to you since you only started following the game in 2011 but you'll get used to it and we might all have to get used to it again.

even if it cripples counties financially so that clubs have to suffer by paying increased fees for the next few years? Thelikes of antrim, offaly, wicklow, leitrim, etc will spend 100's of thousands on readying their football team with no hope of silverware and no revenue or fundraisers to recoup those costs.

That's completely getting away from your original point, you were suggesting there's no point playing the championship as pubs would be closed and the whole social aspect will be lost for supporters, county board finances and potential knock on's of that is a whole different debate.

You replied about the players, not about the social aspect so I just outlined another reason. You could play and televise senior, intermediate and junior provionsial and all ireland competitions instead of just intercounty games and you would include more players per county and have more competitive games, more games for supporters to watch live and televised at a much lower cost to the association.
