For media reasons I expected to see more evening games as they're good times for TV but they've went down the road of 13:30hrs throw in's instead to fit the games in. To be fair it is November/December, not a particular nice time of year in Ireland (weather) so maybe player welfare/travelling to evening games etc was a factor in staying away from evening games. If that's the reason it's right one!

If you really wanted to keep a regional element to the championship you could have something along these lines. 16 start the year qualified for championship 1 16 teams have a chance at qualifying for it over 4 weeks. Weeks 1 and 2 each team plays 1 home and 1 away match. Games played to a winner, with extra time and penalties if needed. A team winning both their matches goes straight to week 4 Any team to have won 1 of their 2 matches play in week 3. 8 teams will emerge to week 4 and the winners of those ties qualify for Championship 1. Championship 1 will be 20 teams split into 2 groups of 10. It can be championship 1 North and Championship 1 South if it is to be regionalised. Top 4 in each group to All Ireland playoff rounds. Top 6 in each group retain their championship 1 status. 7th in each group hosts the 8th placed team in the other group, the 2 winners of these ties retain their championship 1 status. That'll be 14 championship 1 teams going forward to the following season. 9th and 10th in each group will have to go through the following season's qualifying competition. Championship 2: 12 teams play an 8 game schedule each. Top 6 teams in championship 2 playoffs. Championship 2 finalists qualify for the following season's championship 1. Season is 16 game weeks long. 4 weeks for qualifiers. 9 weeks for group stages. 3 weeks for All Ireland playoffs. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 3111 - 04/10/2020 15:22:27 2295588 Link 3 |
