And Dublin was in lockdown during March and April. What's your point? You've brought Dublin into the debate here for no apparent reason. Dublin had a high case numbers per thousand and it, along with the rest of the country, was locked down at the beginning of this thing. Dublin has small numbers now per thousand and is not being locked down yet. What's your problem with that? Your point seems to be that Dublin used to have a high amount of cases per thousand so it should still be locked down, that's just illogical nonsense. Dublin has thousands and thousands of people travelling into it daily from all over the country. This was reduced during the lockdown but not entirely and is back up in numbers now. Kerry's numbers have indeed been nice and low which means that the loads of 'Dubs' down there during lockdown had no effect. People in Dublin going on holidays in Kerry is a good thing, a huge proportion of them are Kerry people getting back down to see family that they haven't seen since before lockdown. Can we all take a moment and spare a thought for those Dubs on holiday in Kerry, just when you think this virus can't cause any more suffering. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 3671 - 08/08/2020 20:15:22 2286895 Link 3 |
The lockdown in Kildare is understandable but going on the figures today putting Laois and Offaly under it seems excessive. Dr Glynn said that there were 118 cases in Kildare, Laois, and Offaly today but I dont think he mentioned that 110 of those cases were in Kildare, 7 were in Offaly, and 1 in Laois. I can understand if Laois people in particular are annoyed about it. PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 1448 - 08/08/2020 21:32:37 2286908 Link 0 |
Normally I'd agree with you about it being a good thing that dublin people come to kerry for their holidays but not during a pandemic mes especially considering dublin is the equivalent of Wuhan in Ireland. And a huge percentage of people holidaying in my county are not Kerry people getting back down home to see their families and I've met dubs holidaying down here in West kerry during the lockdown thats not right considering the rest of us followed the rules. Well thank god your not down here multiple username I still haven't got over the tripe I had to read from you the last time you ventured down. Maybe you go to mayo for your holidays and you could stay with advancedmark :-) KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 08/08/2020 22:05:18 2286911 Link 4 |
The point is very clear you are correct in March and April Dublin had very high rate of Covid 19 but the entrire West coast had little or none so why was the entire country locked down?

"the rest of us followed the rules" The majority of people followed the rules and then some didn't. Neighbours of mine were up and down the country to their families in Listowel all through the 2km restrictions. Another family on the street didn't go up to Donegal until they were permitted too. Some people are ignorant. Just coz the Kerry family were ignorant doesn't mean all Kerry people were ignorant during it. I'm sure some Dubs headed down the country during lockdown, the same as the country folk in Dublin that headed back home during lockdown. It wasn't right but they were in the vast minority of people. The vast majority of people in Dublin and the rest followed the rules. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13145 - 09/08/2020 10:02:10 2286954 Link 5 |
That's a bit harsh man. Kerry is indeed a beautiful spot for a few days. Just avoid the Killarney and Dingle expensive Temple Bar type experience, and get yourself off into the Corca Dhuibhne peninsula or head south into Iveragh. Amazing places all over the county to be fair to them. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13145 - 09/08/2020 10:13:40 2286956 Link 3 |
Because back then most of the cases were from community transmission so there was no way of knowing where people had picked up the virus. People were living and working in Dublin but heading home at the weekends etc. Our testing turnaround was taking too long too so a blanket lockdown was the correct decision at that time imo. Now, few cases are from the community it makes sense to lockdown pockets of infection as they arise. I have no problem with it. There will likely be more local lockdowns before this virus is done. If it ever is.

The country was dealing with an unprecedented pandemic and had no clue to how bad things might get so the entire country was locked down, similar to most countries our size. They're going for a more localised approach. I've no doubt that there'll be more local lockdowns, Dublin almost certainly will have one. Thats were i was coming from really, wouldn't be a fan of the towns Killarney, Tralee and Dingle. Some nice scenery alright, but easily taken care of over a long weekend via a league game. The jewel of Munster would be West Cork in my opinion.

You can't take anything that multiple username says seriously the hermit anybody who has to setup multiple accounts so he can pretend that he matters on a anonymous forum is just sad beyond belief , he thinks he's smart because he gives sly little digs instead of just coming out and saying what he thinks or maybe he's afraid to.

I wouldn't let those towns turn you off the county though. Places like Sneem, Kenmare, Waterville (Micko country), Caherdaniel are well worth a few days imo. West Cork is grand too, spend a lot of time down there as that's where the wife is from. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13145 - 09/08/2020 12:48:58 2286975 Link 3 |
I spent the week down there, just before and after the "miracle of Tralee game" in the league last time, really enjoyed those towns you mention to be fair heading through the Iveragh and did a few over nights in a few. Was traveling with a pal from Castleisland id met in New Zealand (now there is scenery if you ever get that far) so they knew were to hit away from the tourist traps. Not sure i'd do another week down there, or even consider a couple, maybe a long weekend if there is a game on. Nice scenery mind, but that will only get you so far. Just didnt enjoy the big towns, euroshops, vape shops, didly aye pubs, Paddywhacker shops and eye sore Aldi's, maybe its geared toward foreigners, but really dumbs down Irish culture at that pitch. I suppose the same things exist in Dublin to a degree but i suppose Dublin is bigger and the concentration less so id doesnt feel so invasive. People were lovely though and some great banter, especially out Waterville way. So many places just as nice and less beaten to death with Tourism, West Cork has a nice pitch to it for tourism and visiting and not in your face, West Clare all the way up to Galway City, some stunning scenery in North Mayo, while Donegal is just spectacular. Id really recommend North Antrim as well, it would give anywhere a run for its money in the Country. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 3671 - 09/08/2020 14:47:34 2286988 Link 3 |
Ah ha ha ha, oh God lad would you ever just go off for a few days. Firstly "the miracle of Tralee" who in a county like Kerry ever refered to a League game as anything only a league game. Secondly, you have friends? Thirdly a Dub talking about vape shops, euroshops and Aldi?? Where are you from?!!! I suppose Italian chippers and Iceland's are culture are they. Glad to hear you'll never darken Tralee's door again, as if you ever left the couch for a League game anyway ;D TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 5828 - 10/08/2020 00:33:12 2287048 Link 4 |
Dublin bigger than tralee? I'd say you might want to get your old geography book out multiple username. And ya West Cork North Antrim and Mayo are beautiful places no doubt but you've never written a 20 page essay on them like you did about my beautiful county now have you? KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 10/08/2020 10:18:58 2287073 Link 3 |
Agree about Donegal and the Glens of Antrim, they're probably my two favourite places in the country to visit. Stunning scenery. We'd be semi regular visitors to both places as we've close friends in both. I know West Cork well, too well unfortunately! I've never travelled around Mayo, County Galway or West Clare but must rectify that at some point. I'd still recommend Kerry highly to anyone personally though, I'd just avoid Dingle and Killarney for the same reasons I wouldn't recommend anyone going to Temple Bar! With travel restrictions likely to last in terms of going abroad I'd say we'll all be looking for good recommendations around the country. That should say dublin bigger than Kerry not tralee, the league miracle thing threw me a little.
