Hard luck to Corofin but congratulations on a great run. May never see the likes of it again. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 1082 - 30/09/2020 12:12:48 2294868 Link 0 |
Galway SHC and SFC Finals this weekend, both Finals should be good games and would be suitable for a Sunday TG4 Double bill. katser (Galway) - Posts: 1058 - 30/09/2020 19:13:28 2294935 Link 0 |
Some good matches there for sure. A few short years ago Turloughmore were involved in some sort of disagreement with Beagh over playing an ineligible player or players but they've come far since then. Best of luck to all involved and stay safe.

I understand that neither final is on TG4 and the reason for that probably is because of the high uptake on live streaming in Galway. If TG4 covered them nobody would bother subscribing to the live streaming and there would be less money going back to the county board and onto the clubs. Some people will complain and give out about it but that's the reality.

Yeah I think Kerry took a similar approach. It's a bit of a balls for older folk who might not have the technology available to them. But on the other hand you can understand the county board's approach. They're desperate for any sort of revenue streams in the current climate. The Donegal final (for now) is due to take place next Wednesday night. I'm assuming it will be streamed live aswell. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 7075 - 01/10/2020 09:49:01 2294979 Link 1 |
A lad from South Connemara told me, that TG4 would have to pay the County Board 1/3 of the profit from viewers tuning into watch it on TG4. If 200,000 viewers Nationwide watched it..that's worth more to the County Board than individuals paying €6 to stream it live. katser (Galway) - Posts: 1058 - 01/10/2020 09:59:21 2294983 Link 0 |
Sounds like you have reliable sources there alright.

TG4 is not a profit-making station and it never will be. It is basically run on a government subvention as a cultural necessity. I doubt if televising 2 Galway senior county finals would bring in anywhere near a 200k viewership. If it did they'd be able to sell advertising and might be able to outbid the streaming service but that's a big if. They very seldom have more than a couple of adverts which tells you how small their viewership is even when covering GAA games.

Well it makes no difference to me either way because I'll be streaming both games but its unfortunate for some older generation who might not have the capability to stream it. The Galway Co. Finals in both Hurling and Football is a very attractive Fixture and it would draw alot of viewers and interest from a National point. katser (Galway) - Posts: 1058 - 01/10/2020 12:30:06 2295033 Link 1 |
The streaming has been outstanding, and with county games coming up you would expect county boards to be streaming they're home games. Yourjoking (USA) - Posts: 525 - 01/10/2020 16:26:02 2295094 Link 0 |
Between the Galway Hurling and Football Finals this weekend....I'd say about 30,000 Galway people will pay to Stream Live at about 6-10 Euro a pop! katser (Galway) - Posts: 1058 - 01/10/2020 16:56:20 2295098 Link 1 |

Who is in the Meath final? Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 7075 - 02/10/2020 14:23:42 2295288 Link 0 |
I think streaming is here to stay and will continue when Covid is no longer an issue. There has been a big take up of it in Galway...for the hurling anyway, I'm not sure about the football but probably theres been a high subscriber level there too. It's very handy for people like myself who live outside the county ....in normal times it would cost me so much more to travel to attend games. It must be a real boon too for Galway GAA fans who live overseas. It has been so successful that I would say it will mean that there will be very very few if any Galway club championship games shown live on TG4 or any national channel in the future. It's a bit funny in a way, considering all the hullabaloo there was about the Sky TV deal that we are now moving into an era of what is in effect is "Pay per View" and most people are fine with it. A lot more than 200 in Navan today. lilylanger (Kildare) - Posts: 527 - 04/10/2020 14:25:28 2295570 Link 5 |
What a bloody great game in navan today. Have to feel so sorry for kells but fair play to rathoath they never gave up. Great weekend of football all over Meath special mention to the bracks winning intermediate. Surely one of the smallest most rural clubs In country. What a achievement. Ok as a a native (now exile) of the parish I'm biased. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 04/10/2020 17:35:34 2295617 Link 1 |
Ha Hon the Bracks, well done royaldunne, enjoy the win, some achievement for Ballinabrackey to be playing senior this year. The Meath senior final was very good but the final 10 minutes were something else. As I said on the Meath forum, in the last 10mins you had a level game, a red card, a penalty (unrelated to the sending off) and a last minute goal to win by a point, brilliant stuff, well done to Ratoath and hard luck to Kells. Think your right there, live streaming in Tyrone was massive also and now's the time for GAA to step up and show more games when other sports are going to the wall. Take advantage of this crisis.
