Massive achievement for a club with 300 members.

Goes to show the impact County has on Club."
Wonderful achievement by the Mun...
What a performance yesterday.

Getting their inter county contingent back in late Sept. each year, when they are exhausted, has definitely cost them quite a few Dublin SF Championships. To see the outpouring of emotion by the players who have already won multiple All Ireland's with the Dubs, just shows what the club still means to them.

A super team and a great club.
What they achieved with such small numbers is remarkable, compared to the huge membership of other Dublin clubs.
It is a huge pity that there will be no Leinster or All Ireland club series this year, that they could make an attempt at.

The documentary on BK recently shown on TV epitomized the spirit of the club.

Absolutely delighted from them.
Congrats to the players, management team and all those working behind the scenes in the club.
Well done to all.
Enjoy...!

It's obviously been a challenge for Ballymun to provide the inter county players and get everybody right in time for a Dublin championship. This year they had full committment, no distractions and the evidence is there for all to see. A fantastic team; I'd like to see them give the club a full 3 or 4 year committment; I'd almost guarantee they'd win more than one All Ireland if they did so.

It's a pity for them there isn't an All Ireland this year because no club in Ireland would stop that team from now until next March if there was the traditional club championships."
I agree.

I dont think it will be too much longer before BK have all players available, all year long, and can have a proper go it, before it is too late for them with this group of players.

Some very moving pictures of the Smalls after the final whistle, it meant so much to them, a bitter sweet day for them, im sure. Their dad was the Chairman of Kickhams for years and sadly died last year. Im sure he was guiding them and the whole team yesterday. RIP.

Its was the manner of the win yesterday that really is startling, Boden are a crack experienced outfit, with Dublin Senior, Leinster and All Ireland Medals under their belts. Mun walloped them, with two starting players suspended. As i say terriffic achievement for such a small club. Only for County I suspect they'd have a few club All Ireland under their belts.

A great win for Ballymun. Delighted for them. Really shows the difference having the county players fully available.

There seems to be a culture of winning county titles in Ballymun

Interested to get people's take from other counties. In Donegal a club can only get into a higher grade of Championship by winning the one they currently participate in. There is no gateway to playing Senior championship other than winning the Intermediate for example. The four "worst" clubs from the group stages of the Senior championship play off to see who goes down to Intermediate. There is a school of thought that it is easier to stay up in Senior than it is to get promoted from Intermediate.

How does it work elsewhere? Do any counties use league positions instead?

Carryduff ran away with div 2 last year in Down. They were allowed to compete in the senior all county championship despite not having won the intermediate. Made it to the final so you have to say they deserved to be there.

Same in Mayo. Bottom teams in effect get two chances to stay up...relegation semi final and final. Intermediate champions only get promoted. Balla won it this year in Mayo.

I'm confused but he kerry club system but their "junior" teams seem to be of senior quality.

4 titles in 51 years isn't exactly a culture..

Thanks for the link. What stood out for me was: "What made this achievement all the more laudable was that they did it with a team of born and bred New Yorkers" Is this a first? Has their ever before been a successful team in football or hurling, in New York or London, that did not include at least one Irish born player?

This seasons county winners should be allowed to participate in the provincial series next year. So some counties will have up to two participants in the senior, intermediate and Junior provincial championships unless the same team wins this year and next. Just a thought to perhaps reward this years county winners.

In Kerry's county championship there are only 8 actual club teams. The other 8 are divisional teams. So their intermediate championship has the 9th best club in the county and so on.
This naturally feeds down to junior as well, where their junior winners would be a higher rank club in comparison to many others. They've had great success in the intermediate and junior club All-Ireland series as a result.
The system works very well down there and the best players from small clubs get to play senior football for their divisional team.

That's an unbelievable achivement by St Barnabas. Not sure if it's been done before with all American born players, definitely not for a Senior championship at that level. Shows that a lot of good work is being put in at underage level in New York. Also shows the other side of it and how reliant some teams are on summer players and J1 players to strengthen their team, which didn't happen this year.

Hopefully this story gets the coverage that it deserves.

Offaly SF Final next Sunday is between Rhode and Tullamore. Tullamore looked gone at the early rounds, but recovered beating Clara, and then Ferbane in the semi final, after extra time and penalties.
The hurling final has current holders, ST.Rynaghs v Kilcormac Killoughey.
There are 8 teams in the Offaly Senior A championship, and B championships, promotion and relegation applies. Similar groups apply in the hurling championships.

Same down our way for both codes. Most the league is played without the county players so its ignored.

so some counties would have an unfair advantage having 2 teams involved compared to counties with the same victor both years? I thought the push was to reduce the fixture congestion, not add to it

I'm fairly certain that central council brought in a rule a few years ago that counties could not use leagues anymore to decide promotion and relegation between grades. In Galway at least, it used to be that the league winners in each grade got promoted along with the championship winners while the bottom teams in the league went down but now everything is decided based on championship results. Personally I think the old way was better.

I think the current system is better. In the past you had teams staying senior by winning a few league games against clubs who wouldn't be fielding a strong side for various reasons. This was a major issue when county players weren't available. It was pure pot luck at times.
Now everything is based on the championship where every team has their players available. All of the games that matter in terms of promotion and relegation are played with full teams and it's much fairer as a result.
