Why the hell did the keeper run out of the rectangle, leaving his goal unprotected. It's not as if he was creating a passing opportunity, he was a metre or two away from the right corner back when his team lost possession.

Presumably Corofin will be all guns blazing in the Galway championship since there is no All Ireland club championship for them to target. In previous years they have been sluggish in the county championship and have had a few close shaves but with no All Ireland this year they can peak for the county championship.

No real surprises in Donegal over the weekend. Perhaps Glenfin beating an up-and-coming Killybegs away comfortably enough was the only result that raised a few eyebrows. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 7075 - 04/08/2020 09:23:24 2286281 Link 0 |

St Martins v Glynn Barntown in Wexford hurling quarter final this weekend has the interesting scenario of John Meyler with the Martins up against Jason Ryan, they were actually wexford hurling and football managers respectively in 2008. wexico15 (Wexford) - Posts: 2602 - 06/08/2020 01:31:50 2286543 Link 0 |
Interesting game in Limerick hurling tomorrow between Doon and The Well. Doon are ahead of Adare by 6 points on scoring difference so can afford to lose by 5. Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1106 - 07/08/2020 11:13:13 2286721 Link 0 |

Think most people are only interested in their own counties championships and if you go into each individual counties forums you will see they do be busy.

Kilcar vs St Eunans on TG4 tonight should be a great game. You have the McHughs, the Breartys and the evergreen Michael Hegarty for Kilcar, then the likes of Rory Kavanagh, Shaun Patton and the O'Donnell lads from Eunans who would be the standout players. Niall O'Donnell in particular is an excellent player to watch. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 7075 - 07/08/2020 12:42:39 2286742 Link 0 |
Watched the last quarter - was the first three any better as it was pretty poor in the last 15 mins, a bit of a flukey goal from St E and no scores other than that. What was O'Donnell at - the most bizarre red card I have seen.

Yeah it wasn't the greatest of matches. It had the feel of a game where the two teams were feeling each other out a bit. If either are to win the Championship they may well cross swords again in the latter stages. Kilcar were well on top and will probably be kicking themselves that they didn't see it through. I'm not sure what O'Donnell was at. Crazy stuff. I've never seen him lose the head like that. He wasn't having the best of games so maybe it was just frustration boiled over. He'll miss their next match against Killybegs now but they'll win that without him. Killybegs are struggling badly without the injured Hugh McFadden. All of the other games went as predicted really. It was great to see Colm McFadden roll back the years. He posted 1-9 for St. Michaels in their win away at Milford. The other big challengers Gaoth Dobhair & Glenties won comfortably as expected. There is another round of fixtures this weekend but in terms of qualification for the quarters 4 or 5 teams are almost certs by now. Glenties, Goath Dobhair, St Eunans, Kilcar, St Michaels, likely to be joined by MacCumhaills/Glenfin this weekend and the reaming two spots are anyone's guess. Well I certainly got the Hurling Championship wrong in Wexford. Down to semis and any of the four could win it. The TG4 guys I am sure were a bit disappointed with the game at the weekend, no Chin roadshow. I hear they are back for the final in two weeks.

Watched the Castlebar vs Breaffy game on Sunday. It was a good competitive match. Castlebar looked like they could pull away early on, but Breaffy stayed in touch and then improved for a deserved win in the end. Hennelly's 45s were crucial in the end. Aidan O'Shea also grew into the game and got on plenty ball. Castlebar couldn't handle him inside without fouling. I was disappointed with him going down holding his face after Castlebar keeper squared up to him. There wasn't any head contact at all. While the keeper shouldn't have reacted like that, it looked like O'Shea was trying to get him sent off. He's not the only player to have done it, but it's something I hate to see in football. If there was no head contact at all surely the referee should have booked O'Shea. Feighning injury used to be a yellow card offence and I presume it still is. If we want to stamp it out completely maybe it should be a red card offence. Incidentally, the role of the physio in applying the "magic sponge" to O'Shea's face ought not to be overlooked.

He didn't caution the keeper, so he definitely agreed there was no contact. Otherwise, it would have been a straight red for him. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 875 - 12/08/2020 12:27:41 2287352 Link 0 |
