Replying To republicofcloone: "There should be a system in place where if you have written a post and it does not appear there is an explanation given in a private message ie off topic, bad language, potentially defamatory etc etc.
There should be a zoo thread where any slanging matches between posters and the slanging posts are banished to and let them whack away there and anyone who has the energy or patience to view the fun can look at it.
Moderators should have an identifying mark if they are posting.
There is one western forum where it appears to me a poster has at least four different accounts and when someone new posts on it they immediately go on the attack calling names and questioning whether they are actually from that county, Every. Single. Time. Surely some kind of report button can be installed to stop this gross behaviour.
I would bring back the red thumb also." Agree with all except the thumbs b.s. Some people just want to disagree with you about every thing but could not debate their way out of a paper bag or present factual contribution. If they have multiple accounts and they are thumbing it does not give you an overall feel for the subject. I know you also addressed the accounts but the language pattern of those idiots is easy detectable. If they want to behave like that make them talk not just click a button. Thats my opinion.

I wish the mods could get a filter to block all the snowflakes that seem to be on this forum lately.

Replying To CC2020: "It's not about you Brian personally. It could be any username.
I just find so many conversations go down the lowest common denominator gutter.
The Kerry/Dublin rubbish with posters from other counties getting sucked in. It needs to be sorted.
For me it's a simple argument. Dublin have probably the greatest Gaelic football team of all time at the moment. They are to be commended. Is it right to raise questions about financing and population, absolutely. However Con O'Callaghan, Jack McCaffrey, James McCarthy etc are wonderful once in a generation players. They stand like granite against the the teeth of envy. Dublin have current bragging rights.
However Kerry have 37 all irelands to Dublin's 28. They are still the aristocrats in that sense. They have coming talent." I agree with a lot of what your saying, but then you went and started on about Dublin and Kerry yourself. You commented on the players and teams and how many Sams each county won and it has nothing to do with this topic. Made me laugh when reading it. I enjoy the fourm there can be good debates on it but over the last year or so every topic turns into the Bashing Dublin and Kerry feeling sorry for themselves.
Just stick to the topics and we have a great Form i say.

Replying To KillingFields: "The forum is old and outdated Changes to how the site looks will help attract far more people than anything else. Plenty posters from smaller counties contribute. Possibly another change is to remove county under each username. Then you mightnt have as many cliques forming if you dont automatically know what county someone is from and use is as bias against what they post regardless of what they post" Even if the forum is old and out dated ? - The quality of the postings would more than compensate for that.
Perhaps plenty of posters from smaller counties contribute. - Perhaps, but not necessarily from weaker counties.
To remove the county under each username - - I'm not convinced about. Fix the cause and the problem will fix itself.
A clique is sort of a denial of insecurity.
All posters can be rivals, - - - Friendly rivals that is.

I wonder if the multiple accounts were closed what usernames would we never see again, I'd say this place would get a bit decimated for a while but it might inspire other non multi's to join.

After reading all the comments and opinions on this topic. I say, leave as it is It's not perfect, maybe a minor tweak here or there, would improve things; which to be fair has been the way since the board's been going.
Yes, some topics go off on a tangent, and sometimes become slanging matches. So be it, it's the way of the board, you don't have to read it or get involved.
More importantly, it's a case of free speech, with warts an all. You're on a slippery slope once you start suspending and banning people for expressing strong and contrary opinions.
For anyone who doesn't like the status quo and wants radical changes, and it would be interesting to see how many you are. You don't have to use this forum, keep to the other ones you keep harping on about that are so much better.

Many new posters can get dismissed by some of the regulars because they happen to be from one specific county. The quality of posts and debate would increase hugely if the forum was more like the majority of forums elsewhere.

If the multible accounts were killed and shite stirrers faced a time penalty block things might improve and posters might stay.
As it stands i mainly post on the Kerry page only as lets be brutally honest it is impossible to have a decent debate these days - the forum is becoming toxic and won't be here in twelve months the way its panning out.
The thumbs up/down where i understood the concept it actually was the start of the current demise we find ourselves in.
I don't think anyone wants a radical ovethaul however actions need to be undertaken to preserve the site - zero tolerance of wums and non productive posts would be a start.
In this regard the site could enlist one or two of the longest serving or genuine posters and temporarily promote to editors or sencors to weed out the problems.
I can think of one or two here that i would trust in this regard.
But actions need to be taken, i for one can't see myself staying much longer if the current slide continues.

How do you stop someone using multiple accounts? Or more to the point, how can you tell if someone has more than one account.
All you need to set up an account is an unique email address. It's very easy for anyone to create several different email addresses.

Provide ID including a scan of picture ID, like passport or drivers licence, that only Hoganstand can verify and check is unique for each username account. You can keep your anonymity posting if you want but admin can see if your personal details are good.

It's only in the last week the HS forum was brought into question along with the multiple accounts, the out dated forum the quality of the posts and the language used, they are all valid points however I've been thinking. The covet-19 Pandemic is the real problem, we have no or very, very little International or more importantly national sports, 6 months ago there was heated discussions on here about the possible promotions / demotions in the nfl, there was a postmortum on the mighty Dub's winning 5 in a row, Eire Og getting to the leinster senior football final and then being pipped at the post. It goes to show that sport is our medicine, our anti dote, our vaccine to keep our minds healthy, sport is on its way back, however slowly that may be but its on its way, we will then see the topic on the forum being kicked into touch, the quality of the posts will improve big time, what else is there to talk about if we don't have sport. Good morning to you all. PS. Carlow still need a manager, any takers.??

This isn't just a recent slide, I can only speak from my own county page but I could name you a good share of one time regulars that defected due to anti - Kerry points. I'm very active on my page for a decade or so and would be one if the main contributors but rarely post on main page hence my low enough post count. There has been a gradual grind on topics and posters, I've often advocated with my county posters to disengage but more often than not its human nature to defend your own.
I do however see your point and agree hopefully sport returning will give the forum the much needed injection needed to return to point.

Id be happy enough with instant posting.
The Internets easy, just ignore the morons and choose who you want to interact with, ignore the rest. People tend to be trated how they treat others. Dont take it all to seriously and have a bit of craic if you can.
Some great GAA posters here i like to interact with, you'd learn a lot and have your thoughts provoked if you are open minded enough. So well done all.
Very little GAA at the moment but thankfully clubs are back this weekend, boss.

Let's face it, if mods are contributing ( which I would strongly suspect) it's most likely because they want to stir things up and increase activity. More activity, more appealing to advertisers which brings in revenue. I doubt there is likely to be any great changes to the site because it costs money and in the long run what guarantee of difference will it make to those running it. The very fact that posters are anonymous is , IMO, a disadvantage if you want genuine contributions. You will still have WUM's but that's inevitable on any site. The one thing I do find is , even though certain individuals are purely involved to get a rise , posters cannot resist getting caught up with the same individuals again and again.

Real time posting, DM function for ticket swaps and a genuine effort to stamp out the baiting and other negative stuff would really improve things on the site.
I do agree with a previous posters suspicions that some stuff may be let go because it generates activity and site stats, which is good for advertising revenue.
I can't see myself posting on the main forum much in the future unless the place gets cleaned up. I have been as guilty as anybody in getting involved but when all is said and done I registered here to talk GAA, that is becoming increasingly harder. Some posters seem to be on here with the sole purpose of stirring the pot which is not conducive to a healthy online community.
