All Over Before It Starts?

Worrying news coming out of cork this morning with a club ceasing all activities due to covid. I really hope this is not over before it starts.

The GAA really needs to come out with some clarity.

Probably no need to panic yet but it is a concern alright. It is going to be difficult to get through all these club fixtures without some issues. There is already quite a lot of movement around GAA clubs, if you add in crowds going to matches it will be really difficult to track and trace.

You'll probably see a situation where clubs affected will be giving walkovers. Hopefully not but this doesnt look good .

I still cannot phatom how amateur sports are allowed to proceed with zero social distancing, it is a very easy medium for covid to spread as we are starting to see and will see more and more clubs being shutdown, the GAA is an amateur organisation that needs to protect its members especially the more vulnerable ones which each club has plenty, unfortunately a lot of people will get sick as a result, anyway the GAA have decide to proceed, the club championships will start in a couple of weeks but the chances of them actually being completed are getting smaller and smaller by the week seeing how many clusters and new cases we are starting to see and that we have a rising r number

Any of the issues thus far in the GAA have come from off the field behaviour by players as opposed to anything spreading on the field....a serious issue is the disregard being shown for social distancing by young people in their 'social' lives this is the real risk to the games not what happens on the field

I really wish people would lay off the young cause round my way it's the old people still aren't wearing masks on the bus or giving you 2 meters in a shop.

Breaking the rules is happening across all sections of society

that is almost certainly not the case, when players are in close contact without social distancing you will certainly get covid spread easily, 1 person carrying it in a group of 30 players in close physical contact is all it takes, then they all go home to their parents/grandparents etc. Sure you cant blame young people, when you dont have to observe social distancing on the training/playing pitches why should you anywhere else?

why should the young not have to social distance at training/matches etc and be allowed to be in very close contact with 30 other lads/girls and then have to everywhere else? if its not applied everywhere then you cant blame them

I have to say it all seems a bit strange to me. I go to the supermarket I have to social distance go to a restaurant I have to social distance go anywhere crowded I have to social distance wear a mask etc. Yet I go up to my football pitch and I can hang out of each of my corner forwards for an hour!, different lads coughing and sneezing with "hayfever"!

read this earlier.
Yesterday in Dublin, the HSE released worrying statistics on the presence of Covid-19 in this country. It isn't just that Ireland's R rate is at or around 1 again. Of the 23 new cases reported, 77% of the people who test positive were under 25. 100% were under 45.

makes absolutely no sense, its really hard to understand how GAA and other sports with no testing are exempt from social distancing, if you are a GAA player can you not get or spread covid?

Well said agree 100% with your point
The only reason there is any GAA of any description this year is purely down to the cash cow of the inter county scene which in all honestly is very highly unlikely to be played out..it goes back to what the GAA is about which is greed and money.. only reason club scene has been hand balled in 1st is because of the crowd limit which won't be lifted until sept/Oct time or at least they think..

Mmmmm, that could be skewed by old folk being more cautious. Statistically, 23 cases is a very small sample size.

Who knows ?
