Ya I seen that, supposedly the Americans are flying into UK heading to northern Ireland and driving down south. I appreciate they're custom as a tourist county but couldn't they holiday at home for 1 year. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 07/07/2020 14:10:15 2283338 Link 0 |

You really need to detach yourself from all the negativity when it comes to this kind of thing tho. We've handled Covid (so far) as well as just about any comparable country in the world, if not better. If everything was as doom and gloom as so many want to constantly remind us, then why are we rated the 3rd best country in the world to live in by the UN? We are continuously ranked in the top 10 for the following: education, safety, crime, GDP (albeit skewed by FDI), life expectancy. . . Of course things could be better, namely the public health service, but in this instance the dept of health has actually played a blinder to date. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4135 - 07/07/2020 16:32:47 2283363 Link 5 |

That is obviously your opinion. We started very poorly and were not the best, or anywhere near it when it came to nursing homes. You judge a society on how it deals with the young and old. Now we are spending over 2.5 billion on a building -a hospital which is over 3 times the cost of what it should be in a location where access and exit is exceptionally poor. Now you obviously think that is money well spent-fair enough. We gave away significant amount of our assets to vulture funds at 20-30% of value and put people out of their homes and, you think we did well-enough said. What is you idea of managing badly?

It was a poor field but come on at least Clinton would have admitted Covid is bad and not tried to get people out for rallys in a pandemic. Also we woundnt have to hear about his childish crying on twitter

I'm not saying who they should have elected. America has a whole host of problems that are unfortunately beyond the remit of an average Joe looking in from the outside such as myself to resolve. I do however think their biggest problem is that pop culture has become more important and more influential than the many great and noble institutions and ideals that the nation was founded upon. That has led them to a situation where an entitled, narcissistic sociopath has been at the wheel for 4 years. Over the weekend we've even seen a possibly even more egotistical rapper throw his hat in the ring. Now, I think that this is (hopefully) just another instance of Kanye's unashamed self promotion, and realistically he has left it too late to make an official run for office. But then again, I was probably thinking along the same lines back in 2016. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 7075 - 08/07/2020 09:10:40 2283430 Link 1 |

Spot on and something I know I need to rein in, mea culpa. Back to the topic at hand. Surely some middle ground could be found? I totally agree with the clubs having their county men for the duration of their championship run. But at the end of the day only two teams can make the final. Surely the county lads whose clubs have exited should be allowed to train with the county? Or is the fear there that if they allow that some county managers will inevitably take advantage of it? The rapper is running to take votes from Trumps rivals.

My question is and I have asked before, is do club players care all that much that their county lads are missing - perhaps the week before the first game but before that really? In most counties the championship starts the week or the following week after the last game the county has played - the club players are never there up to that week anyway. The way all championships are being run this year I would say they will be with the club for the duration of however long they are in it. As a once club player myself, if the boys on the county team couldn't train so be it, we would always welcome them back for the games, nothing new about it, its been going on forever. Why did the GAA think that this rule was needed when every other year the clubs train without their county players before the championship. Putting the clubs first is rubbish, my view is the club v county issue has never been about when they train but about when the games are played but all of a sudden everyone is jumping on the bandwagon about training.

Events in Wexford showing what's going on & the blind eye being turned by the GAA, really apparent now why the GPA were so insistent on county players being covered by insurance before September, a stench from their claims around why they wanted this done. As for monitoring by the GAA, we all know what a joke that is & the President & DG made that known with their first public statement, telling people to report incidents but no action would be taken. moc.dna (Galway) - Posts: 1049 - 09/07/2020 13:00:17 2283573 Link 1 |
Bigger picture is the GAA, arent to bothered about counties training in my opinion, yeah they will stick to government advice and be seen to prioritise the club game. But the initial bit about guidelines, Counties were always going to train. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 3671 - 09/07/2020 13:28:21 2283578 Link 2 |
How do you actually stop IC training. At the end of the day it's a bunch of people meeting in a fieldin a free country so unless the GAA start sending out G-men and expelling all the top players from the association there's not much can be done. Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1106 - 09/07/2020 14:40:35 2283587 Link 1 |
That's the thing, I don't hear club players making noises about it anyway, it's only the press saying anything about it. Yet another bad decision made by HQ.

I wouldn't be too sure about clubs not reporting Inter-County training in Dublin, we are not talking about an ad hoc group of lads meeting up or going for a run. We are talking about organised training sessions - they won't happen for lots of reasons not least you won't be playing for your club and you are unisured.
