Cyber bullying is done to a 'known' indenity by anonymous cowards.
This is different, god help us.

The 12 year old comment was directly related to the poster going on about snowflakes. Calling people snowflakes is ridiculous especially in the context of the discussion we're having here

Ridiculous in the context of a discussion about the importance of a virtual red thumb by an anonymous individual. Mmmm, I'm afraid you'll have to excuse me, I'm due back on earth.

But responding to them by calling them a 12 year old isn't ridiculous, even if it's dufficult not to react? There are people who post stuff online to get their kicks when someone responds with an adverse reaction. The best thing to do with them is ignore them. They'll surely set up a load more bogus accounts looking for validation and we can ignore them too. The very vast majority of posters on Hoganstand are pure sound, on for a bit of slagging, banter and GAA chat. If we ignore those that just want to troll it'll be a better forum for it.

Agreed and I have you my first green thumbs of the new layout

Oh I agree.
But it can get out of hand. If I was to go back to 02/03. I would have used a different username, I was a bit naive in the beginning thinking like you that it be all a bit of harmless fun. Until a few years back when I was getting trolled by a guy on here he pretended to be from Meath) I gave him a fair few dressing downs. However it got serious when he posted details of my then 11 yo daughter who had won a karate competition, (he had gone to the trouble of locating me on social media, knew a lot about me personally etc, which again I'm a big boy, come see me face to face, now nearly everyone on the post went to town on him, I reported him to Lynn publications (who own hs) and my better half wasn't too happy about her daughter been mentioned on here. So I also reported it to Gardai, now I assumed he was banned etc etc, until low and behold last year I seen the same username pop up. Again I reported and haven't seen the person since. Everyone on here backed me to the hilt. (Many who I argue with constantly) I guess my point is, we always don't know what mental state people are in, and some people who may appear to be just wums (Ive done it myself ) or may go further to trolling and then to actually stalking the person in real life. The red thumbs thing gave them some sort of control to get their dislike of a poster out, I refer u to my original post on this. The most red thumbs were for me, mostly from this same guy who was stalking my social media and my home life, under different names. So for that reason , I'm glad they are gone. If they want to get rid of green thumbs. I'm fine with that too.

People hid behind red thumbs. Couldnt or wouldnt post a reply to a persons post so just red thumbed the post.
How does it take from the forum?
If you were to keep the red thumbs you should have to post in a pop up form why you dislike the post and that reason should be available to the original poster and moderators. But if not that then keep them off the site"
9 green thumbs my comment got, your childish reply got none, what does that tell you?

Now that's bullying, true definition of cyber bullying, otherwise, no matter what the dictionary says.

Says a lot about the attitudes and childish attitudes of far too many regular posters on the forum
Red thumbs/down rating posts isnt a good thing. If you need to criticise a post do it openly or not at all.
Promotion of positive posts is something completely different and should be kept

This thread is hilarious. No wonder Joe Duffy is the most listened to radio show in Ireland. Jesus wept.

Yeah it was in the Meath home page. The are some very weird people out there.
Look personally I'll take whatever is thrown at me. I can give as good as I get. And many times I have posted something that in hindsight I shouldn't have. And if I get flack for it that's my own fault. But I do try to make amends.
However none of my family are on here or need to be brought into anything. That's where the line was very much crossed. But as you say. Some very odd people out there.

I'd say you'd be of the school of thought that children nowadays all get stars or awards for any sort of competition they are involved in,so there are no losers,we are all winners type of mentality, that's all ok until they go out in the real world and have to deal with real life were the harsh realities of human existence have to be confronted, that's when the snowflakes melt(down)
Anyway bring back the red thumbs I say, if only for the poor Mayo folk who cling to a bit of hope whenever they see a bit of green and red, could be our year ya know, Christmas is coming,,,, elves are green and red too LOL.
ah the curse, the curse...
