Gave up posting as the number of good debaters got out number by those who turn to personal insults when they can not contribute anything meaningful or getting out debated. Especially as these people know nothing about you and when all insults have run out revert to the stand line "you obviously never played the game." Physics as well. You can keep green thumbs which allow appreciation of a good post without saying "I agree" or anything else without adding too much to a discussion but the reason it's good red thumbs are gone is people deliberately red thumb posts simply because it's a specific person posting and not what theyve said and red thumbs dont add to debates

the post and that reason should be available to the original poster and moderators. "?"]Because its not needed. Why should there not be a system to allow appreciation of good posts be in place? Oh I am very fond of Kerry and their football teams, I just dont like ye two, pathetic whining due to being beaten over and over again by a better team.

Spot on Canuck. Nothing to do with thumbs. People post here for free to give their opinions and should expect appreciation, criticism, slagging but, above all, courtesy for their posts from fellow posters. No need for an 'everyone's a winner positive only' vibe with green thumbs only. We're adults and we can expect criticism but not abuse and we can still show appreciation for posts. No-one becomes a new member here to look at thumbs, just good or bad posts. The admin job is not l an easy one. Hard for them to ban people with more than one account but we should flag abuse to them if it happens and let them deal with it. A shame that a few bad apples ruin it for the rest and some posters leaving because of that. Start by asking posters to submit ID that remains private to admin.

Now to be honest, if I were to guess at who is the 12 year old between you and the other poster based on your opinion on green and red thumbs, I would pick you!! A person would need to be an extremely sensitive adult or else a child to get upset about getting red thumbs or to feel good about themselves for getting green thumbs. The idea that red thumbs stifle debate is the most ludicrous thing I've heard in a long time. If a person is that sensitive and is afraid to post in case they might get a red thumb, really they would be better advised to stop posting entirely and keep off internet forums while they are at it. By the way, on this post of mine I know you will be giving me a big metaphorical red thumb. No problem. I can cope. PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 1448 - 04/07/2020 09:41:15 2282986 Link 5 |

I doubt care about them. I just think based on past experience of other forums who used similar up and down rating of posts that plenty of people misuse the down rating of posts for their own selfish reasons and it messes with the amount of discussion on a forum. How is the idea that red thumbs stifle debate ludicrous? With them in place. Instead of countering a post. People will just click on red thumb. If you cant say why you disagree with the post then dont post a reply at all. And theres plenty of people who maliciously use the red thumbs because of the poster regardless of what they actually post in a reply to a thread KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 1636 - 04/07/2020 11:00:05 2282996 Link 1 |

'maliciously use the red thumbs'? It's a symbol on a virtual page after someone's post. Nothing more sinister than that. Not the KGB infiltrating the good GAA people of Ireland. What next? Amazon getting agents to post subliminal messages on Hoganstand so GAA clubs buy washing powder from them to clean their gear?

There was significant numbers of posts getting red thumbs regardless of what they said simply because of the person who posted the message. That's just malicious, trolling, bullying. There wouldnt be replies to the post. I know you are taking the p*ss with KGB. KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 1636 - 04/07/2020 14:25:28 2283019 Link 1 |

Bullying on an anonymous forum that's a good one lilypad (Kildare) - Posts: 1357 - 04/07/2020 15:22:27 2283025 Link 5 |
I can see how the red thumb feature could be used negatively, or used to 'play the man/woman, not the ball' so to speak. And its hard to tell from a red thumb, whether someone slightly disagrees with your post, or absolutely hates it, or just generally dislikes the poster. But, replying to a post not personally directed at you with 'What age are you? 12 maybe?', is just as malicious as any red thumb. Fair's fair. Its still bullying and intimidation. If not bullying then what is it? Cyberbullying is mostly anonymous. That you dont know who it is doesnt mean it's not bullying KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 1636 - 04/07/2020 15:58:03 2283030 Link 2 |
I'd consider calling someone a '12 year old', just for having a different view, as bullying

you our spot on here, most red thumbs had nothing to do with the person writing on the forum, it was about who and were they our from. There our a number of dubs and kerry lads on here who pretend there from different counties just so they can give themselves thumbs up its embarrassing and yes it is trolling and bullying.
