In Hurling I love to see Galway beat Kilkenny because they're always so good and if you beat them you've done something. Cork would be second and I suppose Clare third. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 1082 - 29/06/2020 23:37:46 2282327 Link 2 |

Football, I'm just happy when Limerick beat anyone.. Hurling, Cork, Tipp or Clare in no particular order. skillet (Limerick) - Posts: 710 - 30/06/2020 11:07:29 2282351 Link 1 |
Just happy to see the footballers do well too no matter who we play. It would have been nice though to have gotten at least one win over Kerry when we were going good a few years back. Definitely Clare for me in hurling as I grew up in the city Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1106 - 30/06/2020 12:20:45 2282358 Link 1 |

Cork cos you've never beaten them. It's just that you've scored more than them at the final whistle. Buachaillbui (Clare) - Posts: 93 - 30/06/2020 13:34:25 2282368 Link 3 |
Looked it up and Galway last got one over the Dubs in championship in 1934... that rivalry is a bit of slow burner!

Hurling Tipp Football Kerry- although we hardly ever beat them in that code. Oldertourman (Limerick) - Posts: 162 - 30/06/2020 15:23:50 2282383 Link 1 |
For me it's the Dubs every time. After that, it's Louth. They made the list after their carry on in 2010 Selwyn (Meath) - Posts: 195 - 30/06/2020 16:18:34 2282394 Link 0 |
That's fine as far as it goes. How many times have Galway and Dublin met in the Championship since 1934? Considering Galway have won 7 All-Irelands, and been runners-up 10 times since then.

7 times... last one a couple of years ago and the one before that 1983, a gap of 35 years. World climate went up a couple of degrees in that time, which is a couple of degrees more than the Galway/Dublin rivalry! Mind you, for those old enough, 1983 still resonates like few finals before or since - Mayo/Meath 1996 maybe, and the Dubs/Mayo semi-final of 2006, though that one only for the theatrics!

Westmeath, can never beat them enough or by enough. And obviously dubs. After that I'd put Kildare. Nice rivalry in 80s and 90s with cork. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 17035 - 30/06/2020 18:37:05 2282424 Link 1 |
The Meath thing that a lot of Mayo people have boggles the mind really. I understand that Mayo could've and maybe should've won the 96 title, but isnt that the same of many other finals Mayo were involved in? Maybe its that Meath went on to win an All-Ireland in 99 after 96 and many Leinster titles also that meant the 96 thing was settled in the mind very quickly in Meath and now its barely an afterthought. Is that year seen as "the one that got away?"

Off the top of my head, 1963, 1974, and 1983 that I know of.
