Cork and Waterford are on the easier side of the draw - with the winner going to the Prov Final - and leaving Tipp, Lime and Clare scrapping for the other Prov Final place. omahant (USA) - Posts: 1824 - 27/06/2020 19:09:29 2282050 Link 0 |
If the Munster draw is lopsided this year then it's basically been lopsided every year prior to round Robin been introduced....

One thing that offsets that, is that the Limerick/Clare QF is also going to be the league final for this year (I'm assuming the league trophy will be presented after that game as per a usual league final, does anyone know if thats not the case)? You could also view Leinster as unbalanced, with Galway and Wexford on one side, and Kilkenny meeting the winners of Dublin v Laois (no offense to Dublin or Laois, would love to see them go far this year, but if I was from Kilkenny, thats the draw I would have wanted) I think for the year thats in it, anything more complicated that whats there now would probably not be worthwhile, the whole thing is being played off pretty quickly. Its a one off for this year, hopefully. It does highlight the benefits of the round-robin format though Marlon_JD (Tipperary) - Posts: 1774 - 27/06/2020 20:46:47 2282059 Link 0 |
Well, the offer of an open draw for 1 year was there.......no point blaming now! StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 864 - 27/06/2020 20:54:25 2282062 Link 0 |
I think it's the "league final" in name only. There will be no trophy. My reading of it was that was just a throwaway comment made when Clare vs Limerick happened to be drawn together. There was no question of playing a league final had they drawn other teams in Munster. I dont think you can change the format of a competition half way through....once the quarter finals were scrapped the whole competition was scrapped imo.

It was announced before the draw that if they met at any stage it would count as a league final

Except pre 2018 the teams in the quarterfinals had maybe 3 to 4 weeks to prepare for the next game. This time its one week and thats a big ask for whoever goes forward. As was the case pre 2018 it could be an advantage to go through the back door and loose your the q'final. ZUL10 (Clare) - Posts: 601 - 28/06/2020 11:11:34 2282110 Link 0 |

If lopsided and if Rd 2 bye is a remedy ? omahant (USA) - Posts: 1824 - 29/06/2020 00:44:50 2282192 Link 0 |
So many questions to be answered not just in Munster. Will crowd restrictions still apply? Are we going to have canned supporter noises? Will there be a 5 second delay on TV to bleep out Davy Fitz's 'opinion's' of the refs officiating? Any truth in the rumour Dublin have drafted a number of Germans onto the panel with penalty shootouts in mind? Maroonatic (Galway) - Posts: 947 - 29/06/2020 09:34:56 2282203 Link 0 |

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. But it did seem a little vague from the reports I read, and the GAA's website said that although no Division 1 League Final was scheduled, if Limerick and Clare (officially declared 1A and 1B champions) play against one another in the Championship this year that match will also be deemed to the Division 1 Final. That was announced on June 26th. So it still seems a little vague, but you're probably right about no cup being presented etc. Marlon_JD (Tipperary) - Posts: 1774 - 29/06/2020 14:04:10 2282233 Link 0 |
They've a fine tradition of hype and underachievement at 1 title in 50 years suggests so.

You are not very good at counting, two titles in 50 rears 1973 and 2018. It is yourselves, Wexford, with one title in 50 years. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 533 - 30/06/2020 23:09:36 2282454 Link 2 |
Fair enough 1 title in 45 years so...

Also we don't have an inflated opinion of ourselves like we're a traditional hurling powerhouse
