Breezy. Whenever there is a close game, and I can recall several of these involving Limerick, and the referee has an opportunity to level up he will give the trailing side a chance. I thought Pat Horgan's free was very soft the year before and I thought the blowing up of the drawn game in Cork with LK on the attack was another example. In 2001 Paul Codd, probably the mist accurate long range point scorer from play of his day, had the ball in front of the Tipp goal, with the sides level, when Pat O'Connor blew it up. I could recount several more. Many refs seem to adopt the attitude that as no team deserves to lose here, give them both another day.

Its beyond me why the GAA have still not introduced a countdown clock/hooter system like the ladies have. Surely to god this would lead to some level of transparency for players/officals/supporters. How many times have we seen injury time go on and on at the "discrepancy of the refereee" Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 979 - 25/06/2020 10:32:22 2281788 Link 0 |

It is ten years ago today that Meath scored five goals past the Dubs and Louth beat Westmeath to reach their first Leinster Final since 1960. Ollie2 (Louth) - Posts: 221 - 27/06/2020 15:10:48 2282024 Link 0 |
What a bizarre day that was Ollie. A great campaign in Leinster by Louth that year; the win over Kildare was exceptional also. The 5 goal game will go down as the biggest false dawn in Meath history, possibly in all of the GAA. A great performance and some great adventure up front but watching that game back now stinks of disbelief by both sides the whole way through. One has to think that was the turning point in the course of Dublin GAA as well, that created the blue beast.
