Good call. The build up and vision from PJ and Paul Clancy unreal. Length of the field. Meath v Dublin '91 also length of the field and O'Shea goal in '81 also. All great team goals.

Yes remember that. Brilliant goal.

Replying To royaldunne:  "I think u right. That point in my opinion was the best I have ever seen. And that's not just my bias. I actually didn't appreciate it as much at the game (knew it was a excellent score) but Only when I saw the match later u couldn't actually see a way he could score from that position, yet he did"
Galway's Paul Clancy scored a similar one to this in the Connacht semi final in 2000 up in Sligo. And it was bucketing rain plus windy. Two great scores.

Mulligan's goal. Stevie O'Neill scores an absolute savage of a goal against Meath/Mayo...can't mind, maybe 2006? M.Meehan free off the ground against Cork(I think) was a great goal.

Hurling.....Shane O'Donnells was excellent.
Who was the lad who pulled on it off the ground from about 35 yards and flew into the top corner.....Galway man I think from years ago?

On the hurling goal from the ground, are you referring John Fenton's goal for Cork against Limerick? It's still an iconic strike.

Mulligans goal for me. The occasion, the atmosphere, the dummy.... A perfect storm. The other goal that meets that same criteria is McMenamins goal in 2011. Magic memories.

There will be no greater goal in terms of impact in gaelic football's history than Seamus Darby in 1982. And it is the one that will be still shown in 100 years time when a lot of others are forgotten about.

No doubt about that.I was but a child at the time but I still remember watching that goal hit the roof of the Kerry net.

Mcmenamin wasn't a dummy, it was a rugby carry - he took 11 steps!

O'Neill's was against Mayo I think. Outside of the left boot into the top corner into the Hill?

Not sure of the year, 06 maybe?

That and Kevin foleys goal. However I think both while excellent fall into the category of defining scores rather than great goals.

Replying To WanPintWin:  "A great finish. I remember being up in Castlebar for that. I believe that's the game in which Mortimer missed a 20m free in front of the posts, which would have put Mayo ahead late on. Joyce went up the up other end and kicked us in front. All seemed well in Galway football at the time, but that was a good as it was going to get for a long time. We were very lucky to win that game. Mayo were on top for most of the match, but kicked it away."
Can't bate experience, Mayo were indeed ahead for most of the game but Galway had the cool heads to see it out near the end.

I seem to remember that after Mortimer's miss one of the ball boys came on and lashed the ball over the bar from the same spot out of pure frustration.

That Galway team were class and could easily have sneaked another All-Ireland, the 2000 drawn game against Kerry was definitely one that got away.

Ya, 2000 is the one that still rankles with me. We had Kerry on the rack for the whole second half, made a great comeback, but just couldn't get the winner. There were a couple of great chances at the end that we should have finished.
As happens, Kerry showed their class in the replay.
The lads made amends in the best way in 2001, but opportunities to beat Kerry in an All-Ireland final are few and far between for us.
