What game is this? Think it's a 70s football final. The ref is probably in his 50s and has grey hair. I think he's wearing a white jersey too. At the end of the game, the ref gets the ball and starts running for the tunnel, and during his run he starts to wave his arms to signal that the game is over, so presumably he's getting out of there before he can be swallowed by the pitch invasion. Anyone know what the game is? Thanks. Tacaí Liatroma (Leitrim) - Posts: 572 - 26/05/2020 15:05:08 2279258 Link 2 |
Not sure but I remember in 74 the ref bolted for the exit with thousands of young eager Dubs penned in behind the endline awaiting the inevitable invasion. lilypad (Kildare) - Posts: 1357 - 26/05/2020 16:46:10 2279265 Link 2 |
Sounds like the 1974 AI football final between Dublin and Galway. The Pope had a stormer at full forward that day. A huge crowd was ready to invade the pitch from the Hill end so the ref legged it for the tunnel with the Galway keeper placing the ball for a kick-out. When he got within a few feet of safety he started to wave his arms frantically and to blow the whistle for full time.

I think your right, only he doesn't have the ball. It was Dublin 0-14 v Galway 1-6; the referee was P Devlin (Tyrone). Have a look at these highlights from YouTube, the ref does a runner around the 10 minute mark. link Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 1115 - 26/05/2020 21:15:13 2279289 Link 1 |
