Hi all, the phrase "never let us down" is used widely in a sporting context. It's something that i must say annoys me. Its almost a throw away comment thats put out there for decent/ average players more often than not.

But can someone tell me, what does "he never let us down" actually mean. Like does having a bad game or being at fault for a winning score mean a player has let us down?
Is it meant purely as an onfield thing or does is it take in a players off field life as well?

It's just a saying. Any player (which is the majority in my experience) who goes out and gives it his all in every game "never lets us down" in my opinion.

No player goes out to play badly. I think fans often forget that in their abuse of players.
