Yip, one player's opinion 'proves' Cluxton was not a great goalie. It was 2014. A lot happened since then."]Greenandred you posted the video so you must think Peters opinion was worth listening to and Peter the great is someone I'd listen to when it comes to talking football. When you consider Pete couldn't pick paschal McConnell or John Devine from his own county he'd actually be further down the pecking order. No Cork players. I would consider A few out of Canty, Cahalane, Steven O Brien, Shea Fahy and Larry Tompkins. From Down, Mickey Linden and Benny Coulter. Con O Callaghan and Bernard Brogan are also omitted. Anthony Tohill, Jack O Shea and Brian Mullins we're best midfielders in last 40 years

What would Canavan know about keepers? Come on. One mans opinions is wait for it, listen very carefully, just one mans opinion. As my lad would say "who is Canaan?"

I agree there should be a few Cork lads on that team.

The problem with saying such and such should be included is they have to replace someone else, who most agree should be on the team as well. All of those players mentioned were fantastic footballers. That's the problem with picking a team like this, there can only be 15. You could easily pick another team that would be just as good. The hurling version is a classic example. People are having to pick 2 wing-backs from Padraic Maher, Brian Whelehan and Tommy Walsh. Leaving one of them out seems ridiculous, but that's the nature of it. I look at this type of thing as 'Who are the players you absolutely must include?' Once you have those, the remaining 7-8 places could be argued about for eternity, as there are just so many great contenders. For me, the nailed on certainties would be: Thomas Clarke (Tyrone) - Posts: 1002 - 26/05/2020 13:40:22 2279238 Link 0 |

Indeed Spillane is so obviously pro-dub that Clucko is the only Dub on his selection. Hard to understand how Rory missed out!

Is McCaffery a particularly great defender even? I think if he was playing in bygone eras he'd be a wing forward (and a very good one). His dynamic style and speed going forward is what makes him great. He is such a threat you have to plan for him. McCaffrey would be in my team but I think there are better pure defenders around personally. I don't think you could put him in the category of 'must make this team', as a lot of people might have two out of O'Connell, O'Se, Keegan, Jordan etc. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 1957 - 26/05/2020 20:43:54 2279285 Link 7 |
When a great player like Paul galvin says that Philip Jordan was his toughest opponent that tells you how good of player Jordan was in a fantastic Tyrone team that took care of an equally great Kerry team.. regarding McCaffrey he is a quality operator with skill and pace to burn.. imagine a 1/2 back line of Jordan, Keegan and mc caffery.. pace and power rolled into one

Jordan was absolutely outstanding, the half back line might be the most competitive area in the entire TSG team. There are just so many wonderful players there. James McCarthy is up there with all of them. Seamus Moynihan also played his best football there and he might be the best of the entire lot, won All Stars at right half back even though he is remembered as a full back. He was the best wing back in the country by a mile around the turn of the millennium but Kerry were so stuck for a full back that they had to put him back there where he was also outstanding. They had Tomas coming through at that time so I suppose it made the move easier. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 1957 - 26/05/2020 23:03:57 2279298 Link 7 |

"Kerry folk voted in their droves". I wonder. Michael Sheehy has 8 All-Stars - that's more than 4 of the chosen forwards. John O Keeffe has 5 All-Stars - no chosen defender has more. Ger Power has 6 All-Stars - more than any chosen defender (albeit he won most of his All-Stars as an attacker). Aibrean (Kerry) - Posts: 177 - 27/05/2020 22:04:50 2279361 Link 2 |
