Firstly, Rugby League is a professional sport which, unlike the GAA, doesn't receive regular handouts from the government. Without this loan, which will have to repaid, a lot of clubs could go under. Secondly, the GAA has plenty of reserves of money, so why would it need a loan off the taxpayers? Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 1115 - 01/05/2020 14:23:51 2277205 Link 0 |
Rugby league has hundreds of clubs of which 37 are professional, less than half of those full time. It is a predominantly amateur game. Like most sports. Soccer, rugby union and GAA included. lionofludesch (Down) - Posts: 369 - 01/05/2020 16:27:43 2277223 Link 1 |
No. The Rugby League, who have been given the loan, is the governing body for professional rugby league in England. It administers the England national rugby league team, the Challenge Cup, Super League and the Rugby League Championships. It has nothing to do with the amatuer game which is governed by the British Amateur Rugby League Association.
