There's a difference between a game worth watching and a game worth remembering. Any game of ball is worth watching at the time. Kerry v Cork in the Munster Championship is worth watching at the time, but hardly unmissable, you'll get to see it again next year, and the year after, and the year after that...... often if Cork are any use you'll get to see it later that year. It's similar to a League match in how it feels. Very different from when it was genuinely a big fixture over 20 years ago. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13145 - 06/05/2020 12:30:15 2277626 Link 6 |

And who wouldn't want to see O'Leary marking Galvin Lynch marking Gooch and Canty marking Donaghy? Great battles. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 11732 - 06/05/2020 14:30:42 2277634 Link 0 |

I've been to many good league and early championship games but they just don't linger in the memory. Kerry v Cork in the Munster Championship just isn't all that important anymore, it's like them playing in the league, we'll watch but no one really cares all that much who wins, it's all about later on down the line. If either team wins the All-Ireland but has lost in Munster they don't care. Or if Cork were to beat Kerry in Munster but lose to them later on, which defo happened during the 00s but we'd have to look it up to remember when though, they wouldn't care about the meaningless provincial game earlier in the year. The same goes for all the old big provincial games, but doubly so for Kerry/Cork coz they essentially play every year, unless Cork are terrible at the time. Tyrone and Donegal had serious battles a few years back I remember them I remember watching Roscommon beating mayo in last years Connacht championship and it was a great game for the neutral and there was pages and pages written about it on here afterwards. Saying that I can't remember any good leinster games in the last 10 years but then again that championship was pronounced dead years ago. Lads, stop , stop will ye. One county ( Clare 1992 ) has won the Munster Championship in the last 85 years outsider of Cork and Kerry. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 1647 - 06/05/2020 19:11:22 2277654 Link 3 |

Leinster has been poor for the last 15 years. Munster has been fairly predictable for the last 100 years. Kerry win more than half and then Cork win the rest. It was the first of the provincial to be pronounced dead, Leinster has followed where Munster led. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13145 - 06/05/2020 20:22:58 2277667 Link 7 |

I have to say even though Kerry we're bet in '82 while going for the five in a row it probably hurt even more when they lost last years final and couldn't stop it being done on their watch. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 1647 - 07/05/2020 19:44:05 2277724 Link 3 |
The pressure and the hype seemed to get to Kerry that day. Offaly were fully deserving of their win. It was third time lucky for the Faithfull County as they lost to the Kingdom in 1980 and 1981. Ollie2 (Louth) - Posts: 221 - 10/05/2020 18:36:30 2277890 Link 1 |
